Now that the wedding is over and my son is on a honeymoon and it isn't 95 and 95% humility it was time to work on the camper again. Started off slow last night and just worked on sanding the cabinet door fronts and some of the cabinets. Not much to report.

It has been a couple days and I have not worked on the camper at all. I did get a call today about a 58 Shasta Airflyte 45 miles away. Went and looked at it but it just was taken apart to much and would need to much work just to get it home safely and then take it apart again. So I had to pass. But then I also just saw a shasta 16 scs about an hour away and now I want to look at that. It is turning out that I spend more time looking then fixing.

It was suppose to rain all day here so I decided to work on the camper. It never did rain. Thought I would start with sanding the cabinet doors and drawers. Got done with those, so what else could I do? Worked on putting stuff in a safe dry place to get it out of the way, then while I had a bit more room I took the goucho out and put that in the shed. Pulled the rest of the tile and found a few more soft spots on the floor. Finally swept the floor and need to do some bracing in spots and maybe some plywood replacement. Took the front wall panel off under the window. Did this carefully because I think I can use some of the wood in other locations. Did find one surprise, took the lamp off over the the sink and found a scorch mark from a short, a little more and the camper wouldn't be here today. I then pulled the rest of the old wiring and found that someone had put wads of tinfoil under the fuses. Good thing I am replacing all the wiring. I have now found two spots that could have started a fire. It had been such a long time since I really had worked on the camper, I forgot how much fun I have doing this. 20180602_155536 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20180602_152239 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Did some work today. Pulled some side wall out and one of the boxes over the wheel well. Needed to then make the trip to Menards to get some more lumber. You can see from one of the images below the scorch on the ceiling that was caused by a short in a light fixture. 20180603_124100 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20180603_124255 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

It may have been caused by someone putting too high of wattage of light bulb. I've seen that many times before. They all can't be shorts.

It could have started with a high watt bulb but from what I could see it was caused by the outlet inside getting broken and shorting. Got a back section of wall done last night. Put in a solid board in the corner. Had to deal with my wife garden tonight. Darn rabbits eating all her plants. I figure that each vegetable I get out of the garden string bean or tomato cost me $48.88 each. 20180604_200039 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Yeah, big light bulbs and plugging something into that tiny outlet always make for scorching and fried wiring...

LED bulbs are cool and work well. Incandescent or florescent are no longer available, at least not here...

I keep the same fixtures and the same wiring, just hook it up to 12vdc and use incandescent 12vdc bulbs which can be bought at HD or on Amazon. I usually use 25 watt bulbs but they come in 50 also.

Last nights progress report: Got the street side wall put back together. The ugly black is gone as well as the hole in the wall. I then worked on getting the bumper cut off. It was falling off and I now need to decide how to put a new one on. I think I will do what I did last time. Get some C channel and 4 inch square tubing and build one. That was it for the night.

No progress last night but it was date night so worked on being with my wife. That is always a good thing.
Here is something that has been bothering me since I started rebuilding the 58. When they built this camper they must have put down the plywood, then rolled out insulation and then the framing on top of that. They then nailed the plywood to the framing, missing the framing about 20% of the time. This construction leaves a gap between the plywood and framing making it very loose and all the attachments now have a 1/8 in gap in them because of the insulation and the insulation is working on uncompressing and pushing out on these little nails.
I cut out the old insulation but I couldn't always get it out between the plywood and framing. How have you guys gotten this out?
Do I need to get it out?
I am still amazed these campers held up as long as they have.

I just leave it there and put in new insulation when the time comes.

Todays I got some work done before my son showed up to put a trailer hitch on his SUV. Got the metal cut off from the old bumper. Started pulling up the front support that holds the front wall to the floor. Then took up a section of floor that was soft and had been replaced incorrectly at some point. Then took out part of the front corner under the window. I will need to build up some 2x4 floor supports under this area. Also I will cut some 2x6 boards again to put along the front edge to give more support the front wall and floor. It also stops some of the weather from getting in between the plywood and sound board. 20180609_170843 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

It was a semi productive night. I got the floor board in and in my enthusiasm (and old age) I forgot to paint the bottom. Shoot, I guess I need to pull it up and now paint it. I then also got the corner rebuilt and ready to nail back together. My flooring also came in and ready to pick up at the store. 20180611_194614 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20180611_194638 by Tom Ress, on Flickr
