Today I got the following done. I cut the angle iron of the frame and had it welded back on I had to touch up the paint Bought the stain and flooring Ripped the 2x4 so we could start building the floor back up Cut the fiber board and fitted it Cut the floor plywood - made a mistake so had to buy 1 new board My son came out and helped with all of this. It was great working together on this. 20200523_163504 by Tom Ress, on Flickr Tomorrow I will have to put in more floor supports and paint the plywood. I think by Monday night if I keep at it I will be ready to put the flooring down.

You're flying along. It looks great.
What kind of paint are you using on the plywood?

I was going to use an oil based rustoleum. I used that for the outside coat on the frame as well. I have found that if I use that I can match it when I add parts or bang stuff up. A good car paint may be better but in the long run you can't easily patch or match. Also a friend of mine who knows more about this type of stuff told me to use it on the floor when I built the 54 and when it came to flooring he has lots of knowledge. Like I did in the 54 I plan to put the fiber board down, then a layer of tyvek, and then the plywood. My hope is that any water that gets through the fiber board will hit the tyvek and stop and if for some reason water gets under the plywood, the tyvek will allow it to escape since it is meant to breath. The other thing I do with the fiber board is offset it to the seams of the plywood. I made sure I didn't get a seam to seam lap, I also made sure on the plywood I didn't put the seam in the door entry area being that gets so much use. I am trying something new this time, the kids wanted vinyl plank flooring and that should add some additional strength to the floor and hopefully get rid of some of the flex, but it is thicker so I will have to account for that in everything I do. Something I think will be useful since everything is in fractions, MM or inches is a chart that shows this. I found a good chart at this website and I put it into a spreadsheet so I can print it and reference it when needed. www.reade.com/reade-resources/reference-educational/reade-reference-chart-chemical-conversion/40-fractions-to-decimals-to-inches-to-mm-millimeters-conversion-chartHere is a link to the spreadsheet if you want it. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i9GATYHvdf3or8lKxcwnLy5BFX-wzkjxw50xMWgjLb0/edit?usp=sharing

Since we don't camp on Memorial Day weekends I have been busy. Today: - Got the flooring plywood with one coat of paint - need 1 or 2 more coats on the bottom - Got the floor joist blocked in to support better around the door and down the center - Cut boards cut to fill in the front of the joists As always it is fun to try and get the angles right along the front of the frame. 20200524_180043 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Today was another day of working on the camper: - started the day off with spraying the wheel wells with undercoating and it must have been bad because it all pooled in the middle of the well - found a can of oil base paint and put the final coat on the floor boards - went to the store and bought new undercoat and some more white - Painted the wheel wells and this time it stuck - Painted the rest of the boards that will be exposed to the outside and can be seen - installed floor with a layer of tyvek - nailed the floor down Now I am tired and ready to quit for the day 20200525_172544 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

If you notice the board between the wheel wells was cut to short. I read the wrong side number on my square. But the next board had some cupping but being it is only 3/8 inch thick the nailing took care of wave in the board.
What I did for the door area, drilled some holes through the C channel and also trimmed the board to fit inside the curve of the inside of the C.

Well tonight I had an ah ha or doh moment. I always have trouble moving the skins around. They always want to bend at the door or curbside window. Well, if you take a 1x2 and nail it to the bottom of the door metal and the top of the door metal and on the curbside at the bottom of the window opening you can then move them around easier without them twisting on you. Why I don't have the metal put away yet is because the walls were in pretty bad shape and I wasn't going to get a good curve out of them so I am trying something different this time. I took the metal, laid the wood outside framing under the metal and marked it. I think took a compass and took it to 7/8 of inch and drew a new line inside the other one. The 7/8 makes up the 1/8 ply and 3/4 inch other filler boards. At this point it seems to be working since I then laid out the old wall and am using that for additional template were it is good. So at this point I have the outside frame frame done and ready to dry fit one more time to the metal and then I will put in the pocket screws and put in the 1x2 and 1x3 studs for the walls supports and window openings. 20200528_201222 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

I think routing the windows out was most satisfying part of the build.

Just Beautiful, Tom.
What wood are you using for the wall framing?
