Not really a repair question, more of a customization question. Anyone out there swap out the old original taillights that are kind of plain and boring for something else? All you hot rodders, using any 39 Ford Teardrops or anything? If so love to see pictures so I could have an idea what they look like on my old Shasta!

Very cool - especially for a '54. What are those above the dinette & front windows? Pull down shades or a wooden valence?

UPDATE: With some help from Citristrip from Home Depot - $20 per 1/2 gallon, I think we used 6 of them. Side yard of my suburban house, with sheets of painter plastic on the ground all around for cleanup. Took awhile! About 4 half day sessions over two weekends. Probable lead paint. I hear the self etching primer for aluminum is expensive....wondering how much I really need to get off as there are still some flakes and spots of residue etc. Need to research. Paint will be tough to decide how much to invest. The skin is pretty beat up, so an expensive job is probably a waste, but I don't want a 20 footer either. We'll see. I have a painter friend, if he helps I should be able to do it for under a grand....
We tow a lot of snowcats around here at work and have a good relationship with a local place in Castle Rock CO, Foxridge Trailers so I took her there today at lunch to get the underside checked out. I am no mechanic or welder enough that I trust myself with the frame. Hopefully they can fix the bent bumper, correct a piece of angle iron, get a new tongue jack put on. I am guessing the axle from 1959 is worth replacing with a new one and new leaf springs so that will probably be done as well.
Biggest PIA is putting on the cover by yourself. She leaks a lot, especially since so much of t he putty came out while scraping, so the cover is necessary as we get rain it seems every afternoon this time of year.
While at the trailer place pulled some drawers and pull knobs etc so I can do some refinishing and polishing. Also took off the screen door so I can rebuild that.
And of course I broke a piece of window glass last night being an idiot and trying to kill a wasp that wanted to sting me. SMASH. OOPS. %$#$#&#!!!!
And pics:

Working on exterior. For paint eventually but will be bare aluminum for awhile..removed most via stripper but would like to sand/polish until I get around to painting. Recommend particular brand? Or just harbor freight? Any advice on best grit to begin with and steps to get best results?

1959 Shasta Airflyte...I am confused by the choices of screws and what to use... I want to paint the J rail but what what type of screw to use? Aren't you supposed to use stainless on the J Rail...? But they won't take paint will they? Same question I guess for the exterior dinette windows screws, what type to use?

So we have a 1959 Shasta Airflyte. Typical dinette window leakage and damage. Having a guy peel back skin and fix (hopefully if not too bad) the framing etc. and button her back up again.
I saw this and I thought I would ask around and see if anyone has tried this particular method?
www.currin.us/trailer/DinetteWindow.shtml
It does use silicone, but internall after the seal to give an extra layer of protection. To me, this seems fairly sound approach?
Anyone?

another day... more work. Went and had Colorado State Patrol this morning to get a vin and title paper work. Wife followed behind. Got there and she said trailer was leaning to the left...Long story short. Replaced the leaf springs. As you can see they were shot. Totally flat. Found a new place in Sheridan Co that does nothing but trailers and picked up a new set with all new brackets. 2500 pounders... Amazing. Gained 2 inches in clearance and my body wants to leave me... This is sooooo fun to do. Thanks all on this site for the support. attached are some pics... Hey there - Can you pass on the info for the place in Sheridan, got a feeling my springs need replacing as well. Thanks much in advance!

Lots of talk about how many Shastas were made. I haven't seen numbers though. How many 1959 Airflyte's were manufactured? 500? 5000? How many in 1969? Just curious if anyone knows....

Price depends on you and how hard you are willing to hunt , dig , and bargain to get what you want. Mobiltec recently bought a new frig for his trailer at about 1/2 price because he found one that a dealer had in inventory for a long time. As you read about the different builds here on the board you will discover there are those that pay retail and those that look hard for the best deal. A lot depends on what you want and what you can afford to spend. as for the stove it depends on how you want it done there are several threads on here relating to that topic. Thank you. Seriously. But when you say 1/2 price... 1/2 of what? I am a good shopper and can be patient, but just trying to get an order of magnitude for budget costs on all these different items. 110v seems to be $3-400 retail?
