What was the progress today. Date night Friday, lots of rain and very hot over the last couple days so about 10 am today I was able to get into the garage. Kept getting the floor ready for tile. Took the surround coving the back of the wheel well on the street side off and found more floor issues. Need to fix the wheel well and floor.
Did more sanding on cabinet fronts and sides.
Will need to work on some bracing under the floor before I lay the tile. Will also need to shore up the the wheel well arch boards in the side walls. The wood seems a pit punky.

Since everyone likes pictures here you go. I worked on replacing the outside board around the wheel arches last night. After further investigation I discovered that the wood looked ok but was punky. Also needed to do some fixing of the inner wheel well. Will most likely have another day or two in fixing supports and wheel well issues. It may have been easier to remove all the internal cabinets and start from scratch like the last camper. I see why now people say it is easier to rebuild the walls then patch them. It does bring a different thought process to repair vs rebuild. 20180702_191814 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Last night got some work done.
Got the hole in the floor filled along with the wheel well repaired so I hope it doesn't leak into the camper anymore. I also cut the opening for the front jack.

I got even more done last night. I found another 59 Shasta Airflyte in northern mn not far from BW. I bought it with a few pictures and talked to the guy. BW agreed to pick it up for me. I now have a project ready for next year. Today I did a lot of putzy work. I filled the gap between the floor and angle iron up front. Had to cut boards at a 22 degree angle and some compound other cuts. This took a long time. I also went and did some more kreg jig work to tie the wall supports in better. I had to get some old floor bolts out in the back so I can put in a new angle iron. 20180708_192803 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

I just picked up a 58 or 59 Shasta Airflyte in Northern MN too. Just off of old hwy 61, near Russ Kendells. I got even more done last night. Last nights progress. Needless to say it was hot and humid in the garage so not much got done. Hard to get pictures of what I did but I firmed up the floor by the door by putting in some more cross members. Tonight I need to stop and get some angle iron at the local metal shop and finish up the back bracing so I can finish the rest of the floor. I then spent time looking at pictures of my new 59 shasta. Can't wait to see it in person. I uploaded a picture for your viewing pleasure. Bracing under the floor at the door. 20180709_184543 by Tom Ress, on Flickr New Camper image (1) by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Tonight, got some angle iron and a 4 inch square tube for the bumper and to replace the angle iron the old bumper was attached to. Got the angle iron installed but will need to get it welded in place. I don't have a welder and even the one I have used on the camper before doesn't generate enough heat.
Worked on getting the floor ready for tile and also did some wire brushing of the frame for later when I paint it.

If you have been looking for a post on my progress lately well here it is. I took the 54 Shasta on a camping trip to the north shore of Minnesota (Lake Superior) and hiked and lived in the camper for a week. It performed like a charm other then the fridge issue with not being able to run it in gas mode. I hope the new board shows up soon. On my way home I stopped and look at the 59 shasta I bought a couple weeks ago and it will need more work then the 58. At least I have a project for next year. It is sitting at a friends house along with his 30 campers. I am happing it will not feel lonely. Will try and get back to work tomorrow on the 58 now that I have done some work at home, doing trimming, pulling wild parsnip and helping in the garden (killing all of my wifes plants) But when I left the floor I think was as ready as I wanted it. Maybe tomorrow I will go out and find that I want to add more supports but I would like to start shellacing door fronts, drawers and framing. Or maybe I should sand more of the walls, I guess I will decide tomorrow when I get home from work and see what the weather and garage temp are. It all has to get done and I don't think at this point any of those can be done in what ever order I want. Doing nothing for more then a week has put my decision making ability out of wack. Time for bed. It is now dark and almost an hour past my bed time.

Finally got some work done last night. First I reskinned the curbside bench base. Then I started sanding walls, and ceiling. I also took off all the seam wood strips since the plan is to replace them. About have way done with wall and 1\4 with ceiling. One more good night or a Saturday and I should be done sanding.

Here is my update for the weekend and last night. I worked on sanding the inside walls and ceiling most of the weekend and I think I am ready to do one last quick sanding with 220 and then start with shellac.
I did shellac some drawers and on one bench base. It looks really nice but I need to give you a picture to see.
Last night I worked on replacing all the ceiling rafter boards. Have 2 left and should be ready to go for shellac. I hope I can maybe be doing hard core shellac work this weekend.

It has been some time since I posted but here we go. I sanded and sanded and sanded. I am now starting to shellac the cabinets. I decided to add amber to the shellac. It is helping cover some of the stains and old yellowed shellac I couldn't get off. 20180804_173924 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20180804_173945 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Yep it's a heck of a lot of work sanding down an entire trailer interior. I did it with the 18 foot Kenskill. It was a bear but it came out beautiful in the end. Looking good.

Todays progress report: I shellaced all the walls and ceiling with my 1 gal. clear and 1 quart amber mixture. The new wood panels didn't darken like the old so I went a bought a quart of amber shellac to put on those panels. The one thing I tried was to use the shellac straight from the can and found that it was very hard to spread and work with. So from now, I will always cut the shellac about 25 to 40% with denatured alcohol. What a difference this makes on large pieces. I learned one more thing. No matter how much ventilation you have the smell of the alcohol and shellac gets overwhelming so I bought a respirator and it made a big difference. Wanted to get more done this weekend but my wife demanded that I do something with her and not hide in the garage so I drove her to the twin cities and we took a 23 mile bike ride. 20180806_194105 by Tom Ress, on Flickr
