Tuesday night was another slow night. I went to a friends place before before I really got started working and picked up a few things: Band saw, drill press, mortiser, saw horses, power miter box, and other misc. tools.
Now the work effort: -Finished cutting out the back window -scrubbed all the windows and drip rails over the windows
Brother got the selves done in the upper cabinets
It was a bit slow because it rained off and on all night so I really couldn't take stuff outside to work in it or equipment out.
Tonight I have a meeting so will only get a few items done before that but just trying to get to the point of closing everything up and then I can take it outside and finish other stuff.
I know I can't get frustrated because all these little time consuming details make all the difference but when you look back at pictures from a couple months ago and all I had was a frame to now a almost usable camper it can be a bit of a let down.
Maybe it is also because I really wanted to be camping with it last weekend and couldn't.
OK, Tom put on your big boy pants and get this thing done. It will be worth it, it will be worth it, it will be worth it.

It will be worth it, it will be worth it, it will be worth it. All of us hit a point in our restoration where we say "This is really taking longer than I expected!" All of us underestimate the work/hours needed, especially on our first camper. We also underestimate how much it will cost. You're doing a great job and you're moving at an impressive pace.

Took the night off and didn't even look at the camper. Took a nap, went to a meeting and relaxed. It will be there tonight when I get home and I will be ready to work on it again.

I got home tonight and my prediction came true, the camper was still there. So I put on my work clothes and went and did the following: -I cleaned up all the extra wood scraps around along the walls and floors -I ruff cut all the cabinet doors -Started building the exterior door -Ripped a couple boards for my brothers deck -Cleaned a corner piece for the back end The one item I can't find is the exterior water fill piece that filled a canister in the cabinet, I remember putting in a safe place so it wouldn't get lost. It isn't lost but I forgot the safe place. I may need to see if someone has one of these for sale. And talking about my brother he started working on the door for under the bed. So of the 10 - 1\8 x 4 x 8 birch plywood I have 3 left, of the 10 - 1\4 x 4 x 8 I have 1.5 left and the one 1\2 x 4 x 8 birch I use 70% of that up. I also bought 3\4 inch pine for the bed and a 1\2 pine for the kitchen that I used most of or used as a work bench on the saw horses. I hope this helps someone later when figuring out what to order. Here is picture of the new door frame. If you are asking why such a big opening in the top, I also bought a window with a frame for it so we will see how that goes. 20170720_211033 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Worklist this weekend. Cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. Got the windows cleaned and ready for reinstall. Everything has been buffed and should be ready to be put back together. Will need to put on all the window seals. Stained the door Build a surround for the access door Sealed around the water inlet and shower Started working on the front gas bottle - battery holder Got my tail lights in the mail so now I can finish up the back end For those who want to do this type of project. I planned 5-6K and I think it will come in at 7-8k with all the little items you're always buying. Just plan on spending 50 to 100 dollars every time you go to the hardware store for some little item because while your there you will remember you also need 10 other items. 20170723_153207 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

It is getting closer all the time, I see the end of at least the ability to drag the camper out of the garage. Came home a bit early last night and slept for a couple hours to get rid of the migraine. My brother came over and we worked on putting the rubber around the frames and seals around the windows. I think we can start to install some windows tonight. 20170724_213211 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20170724_213228 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Another fun night of work. First the most fun item. I took both benches out and cut the burlap out and sucked up all the mouse nest and other mouse stuff. I think I pulled 10 - 12 dead mice out of the benches. While I was doing that the neighbor stopped over and dropped off some birch strips for the seams her grandpa made for the camper. See picture below. I sure am lucky sometimes. He cut, ripped and rounded over the corners on about a dozen strips. I then started putting windows in. I got the front, curbside and storage door done. That seemed to take up the rest of my night. 20170725_203358 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20170725_210714 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20170725_203211 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

Last night I continued the process of buttoning up the outside. -Put some coats of varnish on the door and other parts -Installed the kitchen window -Opened up the back end so I could sand down the corner to better match the metal -Brother and I put on the C rail curb side -patched some holes in the back end -wired in a side marker -fit the rear tail light Still can't find the water fill pipe for the street side. 20170726_212948 by Tom Ress, on Flickr 20170726_213325 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

That thing looks awesome. Please tell me you're not going to polish it and make it all shiney. Love the aged look on the skins.

aslmx, the wife wants me to clean it up a bit and I also would like to get the black spots gone so some polishing will be happening. I am not sure it will be shiny but it will something. Even if it got shiny it would most likely be dull again in a year being outside in Minnesota. Last nights work went at follows: Worked on getting the inside trim put in for the back window Fit the window Worked on tail light wiring and building of bracket for middle running light. Test lighting before button up - once every thing is working as it should I will solder all the wires and put the backend on for good (I hope), Also if you want the light to come on you need to put a bulb in it. I piece of advise I would give everyone with trailer light wiring, run a ground to everything, don't depend on the body for the ground. Will have slow progress and out of touch for a week. Going up north to the cabin. 20170727_211008 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

I have been on vacation for a day and a half and must be having some type of reaction because I am finding I just want to sleep. Maybe I needed the break. Averaging 4 hour a day 7 days a week since March 28th maybe has taken its toll on me. I did spend some time looking around for the 2 hinges that I am missing. No luck.

It is the end of the week and I have been at the cabin and not done a thing. I should be rested up and ready to finish when I get home. The posts should start again maybe Sunday or Monday.
