So, playing devils advocate here, the issues are:
price, agreed AGM batteries cost more.
addressing slow charge speed and improper charge voltages, this can be overcome with the right charger, correct?
weight, may or may not be as much an issue if you can charge them in place.
the next issue is No access to the electrolyte. which if they are charging and working you know you are OK. but over time will be an issue eventually.
the up side, is no off gassing, do the 6v Duracell golf cart batteries off gas? I would assume they do.
just trying to learn, this will be a project I will be addressing eventually.

Well, I received my replacment Shasta logo from VTS, no issues with them at all, the 1st one was missing some chrome in an area about 1/2 inches around, the replacement is much nicer, however it also is missing the chrome on the (R) registered trademark thingy, but its near impossible to see. They say it is an exact replica of the old one, and I would have to agree, it looks identically in every way, the size is the same, and the bolt holes line up perfectly. Here they are stacked on top of each other, slightly offset Here you can see the chrome missing in the (R), you can see the copper around and on it.

Well I received my new Shasta logo today, and it is jacked up, an area is missing all Chrome and you can plainly see the copper, and an area right below that is rough as sandpaper for about an inch, and other areas aren't exactly smooth. I have contacted them to see what we need to do, kind of disheartening. I wonder if these are extras for the new campers and another example of their poor quality.

I modified all the marker lights and built custom tail lights, here is a thread about my tail lights, vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/2302/taillightsand here is some pics of my marker lights. I bought the short 6 inch LED lights from ebay and put them in new vintage style side markers.

I dont have any "extra" LED lighting, but all my outside lights including the license plate light are LED, and I have inside LED's in the4 ceiling as well, and they are great, nice and bright, there is not a down side to them that I know of, If I can find a nice vintage style outside "porch" light I like I will put it on and use LED's as well, and FYI, you can run 12 volt LED's off a 9 volt battery or as small 12 volt battery like a cordless drill uses if you want it all self contained so you dont have to try and run wires through the walls, just switch out batteries when they die.

Honesty to get it uniform you will need to replace all of it or at least sand down the original stuff and re-shellac it, otherwise it will not look the same due to the natural yellowing that has taken place over the last 50 years.

According to his add they are the same size, he is listing 2 more tomorrow, guess I will bite the bullet and buy one. I'll post up comparison pics between mine and the new one for reference.

I went back to that ebay add, it has sold but the seller has sold 2 of them, so he may have a source. I'll keep my eye out for another, I figured when more came out for sale the price would drop.
