I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we could share "All Things Vintage". Photos or videos, stories and opinions, a place to share all things vintage.
What better place to start than with Huell Howser's visit to the Salton Sea in the California desert. The sea was a huge accident by the corps of engineers that resulted in the largest inland body of water in the state. Two years of flooding from the Colorado River ended up in this once dry lake bed in the desert an not long after that people started flocking to the area which exploded into one of the biggest resort endeavors ever.
Now, due to lowering water levels and continued pollution from local farming run off, the town has dwindled to a mere 300 residents.
Watch closely to the back ground in this video and you'll see lots of old trailers, many of which are still there and abandoned today.

Ahh, Huell...Only a SoCal native can appreciate such a cornball, and only on taxpayer funded TV could such a talent exist. RIP

Not sure if this is what goes here but i'll give it a shot : ) My vintage 1955 GE Stratoliner Stove and 1955 GE Combination fridge. In the process of remodeling our kitchen to vintage styling. These are now our everyday appliances. The old door in the stove pic is original from my grandparents house that was built in the late 20's. I dug it out of my Grandpa's shop and he graciously donated it to me. I gave it to my wife for Xmas last year and hung it from a sliding track over the hallway. She was pretty happy.

Great appliances, 54! We lived with old ones for years and they worked better than the replacements. Grrrr.
Modern appliances are made to last 8 years, IF you're lucky...

While taking apart our 62 Compact I found this original map, just in case I got lost inside.

My trailer budget is zero thanks to having a fridge, washer and water heater all go bad at once. At least the water heater was 26, the other 2 were less than 10.

I love the idea of taking a home back to the 50s. Do you have an old telephone in the house? I wonder if they would still work...

I have a lot of old things, but not a phone...we save $$ by only using cheap prepay cell phones. If I ever got a landline I'm pretty sure it'd be tied to an old phone though

I love all things vintage. I collect all things vintage. I will share some on the thread over time. But for today, here is my favourite alarm clock. It is from Europe and is being used in my trailer.

Now that's mid-century modern Wendy. Just look at the boomerang stand and the clock face is based on the beginning of the space race... Very nice. Exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see in this thread. I'll share a few things along the way also. I'm into old radios among other things.

That clock is fantastic! What a find. Has anyone here decked out their camper in vintage camping gear? Coleman, Hudson Bay, Stanley that kind of thing? So far I have an old Coleman cooler and a point blanket for mine.

Also I've collected a bunch of old enamelware and I don't know if it's ok to use or if I'll somehow kill us all?

I've never had a problem with the vintage enamelware that is in our camping stuff. We've used it for over 20 years and it was my grandparents before mine. I can't guarantee it's age, but I do know it's at least 50's era. If there's no chips in the enamel that would touch food or drink then I don't see why it isn't safe. And if you're still worried do a search for any dangers from vintage enamelware, I did and couldn't find any legitimate concerns.

I've always been interested in vintage plates and tableware. But my major weakness was salt and pepper shakers. I had a pretty good sized collection for many years until we lost our house and began moving more often. I finally broke down and threw out the last of my collection when we moved into this place 6 years ago. But now my bad habit is starting again. I was looking for a set of shakers to match the new melamine dishes I bought to make my husband happy (he hated the others because they were so bright, and maybe because they were pink and purple lol), and I've now bought 3 sets because I couldn't make up my mind which I liked better. When I get them all I'll post pics and share with you guys. They're really awesome and unfortunately not the last ones I'll be getting, I have my eyes on two more sets right now.
