My trailer has a 10 foot long track that a 3/8" diameter steel rod will slide through. I don't have a clue what to do about an awning?
I would like to buy one if the price is reasonable?
What is reasonable?
How do they work?
Can I sew a steel rod into the edge of a blue tarp and use it as an awning?

I'm reluctant to answer because some here have very specific ideas of what an awning should or should not be. There are some good threads on awnings here, even a tutorial, and they are actually easy to make. There is actually a cord-like piece that goes into the awning. You can buy this cord and sew it onto your fabric. There is fabric that is made for awnings. Now if you want something temporary, you could fashion something from a tarp. I have seen hooks made to fit into the awning rail. I would not use a steel rod but you might be successful sewing cord into the tarp. I'll try to find the awning thread links for you. Modern awning welt (cord) also called keder welt looks something like this and is a flexible material, vinyl or a cord covered with a vinyl or nylon material. There is a list of places where it can be purchased in the link section but marine supply stores usually have it. sailrite.com is one site where you can purchase it

Search awnings on here. I posted a link to a very inexpensive awning a little while back

Looks like I don't know how to do a search here.
I tried at the top of this page, it wants to know if I am doing a new thread or 3 other choices.
I went to home page did a search for, awning, last 60 days, it showed me all the threads and posts I have done.
What do I try next?

To search the entire site go to the Search in the tool bar under the banner pic next to "Home".

Let me just say this and then I'll run and hide. A tarp is not an awning. It's OK to be thrifty but let's not walk down redneck lane here. LOL...
