Last night Wayne's Silver Lodger was stolen from our house in Houston. It's all aluminum with red wheels and chrome baby moons. It's sporting an expired Colorado plate as well. My guess is that it will be turned into a food truck. damn. wayne

I'm so sorry to hear this Wayne. Can you post a picture here so we can keep an eye out? Also, if you're on Facebook, it could help to post it there so more people can keep an eye out.
This is so sad.

Is this the person that I sent the Mainline emblem to? I sent one that I had laying around to someone some time ago. I am so sorry for your loss. I do hope it is found.

elewayne - dang. Just dang. Makes me sick to my stomach.
mobiltec - maybe you need to look in your landlords' garage. They seem to think these things are just easy dollars laying around waiting to turn them into millionaires.

What a shame, this hits too close to home. What gives? Is there a new burgeoning black market for vintage trailers or something? Sad thing is that in a large city like Houston, the cops probably won't do squat and the thieves know this. I hate thieves.

Any recommendations for a tongue lock or maybe a boot for the tires...the boot seems to work for the local governments

In the past we've discussed issues concerning personal safety while camping. This is troubling in a different way. I agree with Rintin, there is hardly anything more lowly than a thief. While most of the rest of us work really hard, putting our hearts and souls into whatever it is we do, these lowlifes highjack our honorable efforts for their undeserving "benefit". Someone posted a thread about leaving a heavy dog chain leading under the trailer, with a bowl of water to make it appear that a MONSTER dog is resting in the shade under the trailer. I like that approach, let the S.O.B.'s think about what they're about to do, and what might be the consequences. I also like the "Protected by Smith& Wesson" sticker on the door. Who knows?

Hi all, and thanks for the kind words. I had the tongue lock off because I had just moved the trailer and forgot to replace it. If I start a new one I will try to fine a wheel boot. It's a stupid theft. the trailer is so rare and custom looking. My guess is someone thinks it can be sold to someone doing a food trailer. very popular here now. It's stripped inside and ready to convert. Or, I had a lot of scrap aluminum inside and the aluminum on the trailer is worth something.I'm checking cregs list and have word out on local web sites. Police will probably be useless, unless the monkeys get stopped because of the expired Co. plates. I'm so annoyed.Ever since we, from the kindness of our hearts, helped the people of New Orleans after the hurricane our crime level had skyrocketed. No one wants to talk about it but it's true.I doubt I'll ever see this one again whole so I'm already looking at a new project trailer. I was just getting back to work on it too. My shoulder is recovering even though I still have another 6 months until it's fully back, they tell me. I'll let youall know if it turns up again. Yes I got the badge from you, Mobiltec. Wayne

Hanging is too good for this thief. Is there anything we can do to help? Can we post photos all over the nation?
I am so very sorry, Wayne. Makes me sick. VK
PS:Please post your best photos of the exterior. I will post anywhere and everywhere.

Wayne, I watched your original build back in the old Shasta site. Very sorry to hear all this. A few weeks ago someone mentioned planting a locator GPS in a hidden area of our rigs. Anyone know what the car makers are using, and whether they might be applicable to our hams?

You may be right on the money about the value of scrap. There are a number of scrap/recycling yards that are perhaps less than diligent in confirming the stuff brought in is the property of the seller, like when some dude brings in a dozen manhole covers plainly marked Property of Houston Public Works, and bang, they are whisked off to be shredded in the next run. I believe there are probably a lot of scrap yards in your neck of the woods, but I would encourage the Police to check the most questionable ones immediately, or get a BOLO out to the Salvage Yard Hot Line system they maintain.. Chances are the thief is looking at the value in terms of number of rocks or grams the money from the yard will buy. Good Luck!

The really ironic thing about scrapping aluminum is that "scrap" aluminum is not worth anything near what cans are worth. Can's are worth so much because of the redemption price paid. Scrap aluminum from a trailer is not worth the effort to scrap it. I took two complete roofs to the scrap yard and they were only worth $9 each. Total of $18. It's a lot of work to get those roofs off.
I thought it was you that I sent that emblem to Wayne. Do you still have it or is it on the trailer? If it's on the trailer perhaps I can have my girl friend put a hex on it. She's a witch you know....
