No pin striping on any of my trailers and they all have perfectly clean lines and no clear coat so it can be done.... This of course is my pride and joy... The 58 Deville... And that is very nicely done.

Up till now I've had a very good painter. I didn't do this. I've lost my painter to fame and fortune... Just wanted to make a point that you don't have to use pin striping to get a good line.

Okay, the paint job on the Triumph tank, I`m buying this bike from My cousin. Here is how He did the pinstripe on it. I uncovered just enough to get the pic then covered it all back up again. If I had not already started on the camper, when He decided to sell Me the triumph, It would have been finished by now and I would probably have had a very good start on the camper. Marty, That will be a nice bike. 10 coat of clear go a long way. My wife is leaning towards paint design and if Larry's painter can do straight lines my wife says I can too!
I guess the experimentation portion of my paint project is over and I should start a new thread on the actual paint job.

Then try some practice runs with the information that He gives You. I have seen where the tape is cut then peeled and I believe that would give a nice crisp edge to the stripe. I just dont know how the tape would be cut without slicing through the paint too.

We need to give NCcamper his thread back... This is the test thread. The next one will be the mega tutorial we read to our children at bedtime every night.

Hopefully the next one won't put you and your kids to sleep. It's going to be a tidal wave of painting info I've stolen from a dozen members, painters, paint supply employees, technical toll free numbers and YouTube.

Might someday pull out the guns and make another run at painting. No pun intended. LOL

We only read superhero stories right now, PaintMan There are plenty of members who have painted more campers & cars than I have but they have enough sense not to expose themselves. No matter what anybody says, every backyard paint job has minor imperfections. There is a paint job that looks good 10 feet away. A 5' paint job. A 3' paint job. A 6" perfect paint job you pay $2500+ to have done. I'm hoping for a 3' paint job but I'll settle for 5'.

I am just now learning to paint and that is why I am so interested in nccampers threads...

My lines are straight and clean with Fineline but the polished Z is easier because it gives you a non-painted surface to tape. I really don't like taping to paint I sprayed the day before. Pro painters tell me it's alright with auto paint and the right hardener but it always makes me uncomfortable. I wouldn't use anything but 3m Fineline tape.

I tried the 1.5mm tip on the gun and the results were good. Notice the tiny dot? They was on several test pieces. I rushed the sanding. The Hemet white seems like a good match for the new PPG green. Since both PPG and the paint store said sanding down the existing paint was fine without a primer, that's what I'll do. (More on that in my upcoming project thread.) I'm apprehensive because I've always primes in the past. So to play it safe I wet sanded the panels again. The paint store recommended this to help the paint adhere even better. I tried it yesterday. I followed the instructions and I was not impressed. It made the paint run very easily and added a texture to the surface. I may do another test tomorrow. I asked the paint store what body shops use to clean the surface before painting and this is what the recommended. Expensive but I bought some to try. The weather is doing something freaky for February. It should be as low as 20 degrees but it's not this year. Wednesday will be perfect painting weather. Low wind, low humidity and perfect temp. The trees are about to bud out, flowers are blooming and pollen counts are rising. All bad things for a paint job...as I learned the hard way on my last camper. So I'm under pressure now. The odd weather cost me $100. The reducer and hardener on the right of each photo below are what I bought two weeks ago. They're for painting between 55 and 65 degrees. I tried them on a 75 degree day and they caused orange peel. I called PPG and they said I needed a 65-75 Degree reducer and hardener. Since the temp went from 28 degrees to 75 in two days, back to the paint store I went with credit card in hand. Ouch!
