I'd like to put a lantern hook beside the door on my shasta compact but am terrified of damaging the skin and creating a leak. Does anyone have any advice about this or ideas?

Maybe a variation of a THINGIE?

What about a "S" hook hanging off the grab handle?

Yes this is a really cool little creation someone posted on the old board and I liked it so I saved the pic. It's a shelf bracket that was modified to hook in the awning rail and a that pad rests against the trailer skin. I will try to find the picture and post it.

A thingy is a device John Palmer invented to fasten things to the awning rail. very easy to make. Then you could make a hanger that hooked to possibly to two thingys and let the bottom rest against the trailer with a pad to protect the paint. The bracket could be as plain or fancy as you desire. If you are talking about hanging an oil or gas lantern make sure it is far enough away from the trailer that you don't scorch the paint.

I sort of want something next to the door, the way a house has a lantern next to it. I will however check those out for another project I'm considering. Thanks for the link!

Ah, sounds brilliant, I'd love to see a pic of it or a link to it! Yes my other concern is having a bracket that is far enough away to allow a lantern to hang properly and prevent heat damage as well as look nice!

Personally I would suggest a "shepherd's hook" plant hanger...stick it in the ground and hang your lantern near the door. No holes in the trailer, only the ground.
Another suggestion would be installing a light underneath the sill of the trailer, above the step. A nb 7uy777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777

Ooops my cat had a suggestion too, but as usual can't understand her typing. A simple 12-V light mounted under the sill will light the step and not show up. Nor will it mean putting any holes in the siding.

annbclay thingies picture can be found under recent back about 5 pages and half way down or Vintage Trailer Talk Let's Talk Upholstery and Awnings! Awning Clip Thingies Read more: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/2275/awning-clip-thingies#ixzz33ch51sW1The bracket could be L shaped hanging down from 2 thingies and a pad at lower end to protect trailer just make sure arm stands out away from trailer. By hooking to two thingies it would be more stable in the wind or if it got bumped.

Annbclay I personally use the shepherds hook idea that ten suggested above and I place it away from the door so that it doesn't attract bugs to the door area as I don't want them in where I plan to sleep.
