If you just want the look of a lantern you might consider one of the battery powered led lanterns sold now, much safer and could sit right next to trailer skin.

I made one from pvc pipe, extension cord and a light fixture from Lowes. Here is one that is sort of like it. It's pretty coomon to see in campgrounds and has an arm on the side for family signage or a flag to hang from. When arriving at campground you drive a 2x2" stake into the ground and slide the lamp base over it. The electric runs through the pvc pipe and out the bottom. Drive through a busy campground on any weekend and see the many clever ideas people have. Here's a pic of one;

thanks all for the great feedback, that Thingy Invention is brilliant! The PVC lantern stand is Wow but maybe a little too much for me. I think the shepards hook might be the way to go for my little Shasta Compact. This forum is just wonderful. Thanks for all the ideas.
BTW, it's not only cats that like to post. Every now and then my Brittany likes to use my iPad!
