I currently have over 375 Shasta Vin's and would love to add your Shasta's VIN Number and Model to the database. This really comes in handy for helping others date their Shasta's.
Those of you who would like to share your info, you can either post it here or PM me with the info.
I am only looking for the Year, VIN# and the Model of your Shasta. This Database list is not published or available to the public. There are some Shasta owners that don't want their Vin#'s made public and I value their privacy.
I really appreciate your help with this and thank you very much.
Ross

Any idea where I can find my VIN Number on my shasta? I just got it out of some lady's backyard and looked around on the outside for a VIN but have yet to find it. Thanks!

It will be located on the curbside (passenger side) stamped on the side of the tongue, usually a few inches or so behind the hitch assembly, sometimes beneath the tank rack, depending on its position. Some of the older models also had a tag on the inside of the frame rail on the streetside (driver side). Often times the stamp is obscured by layers of paint and/or rust that accumulates, and since it is not stamped very deeply into the metal, care must be taken to reveal it. A good approach is to start with some rough rags or fine steel wool, and paint thinner. A brass wire brush can also be helpful as well. A LITTLE elbow grease and a GENTLE touch can work wonders in revealing your camper's heritage. Although there are some variations over the years, the VIN on the Shastas was usually a 4- or 5-digit number, preceded by a letter. The letter prefix was usually indicative of the plant they were manufactured in. IE a "P" prefix indicated the Pennsylvania plant ( and the manufacturer's tag near the door would read, "Shasta Trailers, Leola, Pennsylvania". I forget all of the plants offhand now, T=Grapevine, Texas; S= South Carolina; V= Goshen, Indiana; I think W= Battle Ground, Washington. The California plant had a few combinations of letters and numerals over the years.

Yay I bet it is rusted over then! I looked by where it should be stamped and didn't see anything before I asked. I'll see if I can find anything. Probably won't be able to until this weekend though.

I found a VIN# the PO put a storage box on the tongue where gas tanks use to be. it was under there, under some rust paint. on the horizontal. flash light and good pair of eye glasses later, I got it. There was also evidence of a plate having been there, the holes were there with a screw still in one hole. Before I put it here why do some not want the number known??? Isn't it to be listed at the DMV? Mine will be now, I want it on the title as a real deal. for insurance as renovated. right now it just says trailer 13 ft. please advise about the why to not want the number posted??? tiajannet

Some people are nervous about things like ID theft and with the complete serial number it is one more way for people to find out more about you. It is no big deal just a matter of personal choice.

Ours definitely required a bit of scraping, but the scratching away of layers of paint revealed the number we needed. Here is a look at the revealed numbers.
We think, but have no actual confirmation yet, that we have a Shasta 16SC, but not sure of the year. We'd love to contribute to your database.
Here's what the paint scraping revealed: D4S 16491 FA 1971
As of right now, we don't know what/who/how that number is catalogued..... or even how to go about registering. We do have a bill of sale. At some point, I'll have to take the time to learn more about what to do next to get her legal.

Sent ya a PM Ross. The wife and I were laughing though. The PM just sent had to do with a lowflyte and a compact we just aquired. The funny part was that we asked about our compact and lowflyte vins we bought last year about the same time! Whats the odds? 2 different Compacts and Lowflytes a year apart?!! weird huh?
