A sad day here in Ohio. I broke one of Larry's top rules for vintage trailers; Never buy without a title. Found the 69 Serro Scotty in a corn field years ago, hauled it home and did the frame up rebuild. Hadn't given much thought about ownership and got a signed bill of sale from P.O. and figured I was good to go. Had a great time redoing from pics of earlier trailers and did interior with all rounded corners, no 90 degree cabinet edges, even the head is rounded at about an 16" radius. New top, rear bumper to front bumper, driving hours away to find a shop to buy and bend aluminum. All custom 1" hard foam insulation, also front to rear top, and bubble stuff on sides. New hitch, tires and brakes on the '96 Toyota T100.
Went to get plates and learned Larry's sage advice as I was told by DMV "no way, no how".
Now unofficial garage kept man cave, isolation chamber, or extra storage shed.
And at 75 years young realize a fool and his money are soon parted. But it was great fun to customize and plenty of time in my favorite spot, the woodshop.
And no, I won't sell it and saddle some other poor fool (like me) by giving it away. Take away from all this is LISTEN to our experts and pay attention.

So sorry to hear this. I think you can get a title but it may be in a different state. If it is fully rebuilt, sell to a state that is more lenient on titles. The VIN number makes it easier. WA state is fairly easy; apply, pay fees and wait 3 years for the title.
Check out Vermont tho they have recently changed the rules or they will change at the first of the year.
TN seems OK with old trailers as well.
There IS a way-just turning a lot of corners...don't give up.

I could check here in Indiana if you like. It wouldn't be that far out of your way either...

Kirk, Man, that's a bummer to say the least. What about a private DMV registration service? A lot of them just do simple registrations, cut the line at DMV types of service, but there are others that go in and take on the DMV where we would be otherwise lost. It might worth a try to find someone who is capable of handling this. You could apply the money you didn't pay for it to paying for the title. That's my logic, anyway. Vermont, if rules are still the same as they were in the past, would definitely be an avenue. This would be the time to pursue that avenue if rules are changing at the beginning of the year. I have a trailer buddy out here who applied and got a title via Vermont and he is in California. Minnesota's rules are supposed to be really lax on trailer registrations. Do we have anyone on the board in Minnesota? BTW, Kirk does amazing work. Another of those wood craftspeople that frequent the forum. Rod

Don't give up hope.
My brother registered a vintage car in VT a few years back using a service he found on the internet without ever setting foot in the state.
Also, I had a camper the local DMV in NC refused to title. I went to a DMV in a small town (same state, same paperwork) and they did it...no problem.

Take all your rebuild pictures to The location that does the inspections for rebuilt/salvage titles on cars along with your receipts for materials if you have them. Ask them what else you would need to get inspected for a new title. Then you will have to make an appointment to bring the trailer in for inspection. Go or call your nearest State Patrol post to find out where your area title inspection station is. Good luck. I have done this in the past and I don't think the laws have changed.

Rod It depends on the location, some are really lax and others would make you get a bond. One of mine was simple and the other I had to get a bond but in the long run it wasn't bad. No longer in Minnesota so maybe things have changed again.

Is there no way to register it as a home built? It's probably over 50% new....

More like 90%.
Biggest thing is age of the T100, and me not having that desire to travel since losing Christine.
I'm spending happy days in the woodshop, which is toasty warm as Ohio's winter slowly approaches, and a stock of rare woods waiting to be turned into something.
Guess there just comes a time in everyone's life when adjustments become necessary, and can be positive if looked at optimistically.

Kirkadie I understand completely, but if you wish to get a title see my post above. Explain to them that you have a paper showing that you bought it and to your knowledge it was never titled. READ MY POST DATED 1O/23/23
