Has anyone put in a stove hood but did not vent it to the outside? Or, not have a fan? I'm curious how many variations of the vent set-up there was/is/can be? I took out the original stove hood which did have a fan to vent to the outside. The hood was pretty banged up, the fan was HEAVY and not sure that it was original, and the vent was no longer vented as it was stuffed full of spray foam insulation. So, can I "vent" it with just a hole up through the cabinet and out the wall, but without a fan? And if I do that, does anyone make a tube or anything to get the fumes to actually vent to the hole, or just is just go into the cabinet and out the hole in the side wall? Or do people just do away with the vent altogether and just put up a stove hood for aesthetics only?

So I should have expounded upon that a bit.... I DO have a hood, which is already painted and ready to be installed. It just doesn't have a fan. So I was just curious what I was going to do about it. Either go without, or vent it into the cupboard and out through the wall without a fan, etc etc. I'm always curious what other people do about situations like mine.

My airflyte doesn't have a fan but it vents through the cabinet then through the wall
If you pull air in with the ceiling fan it may push it out that vent if everything was closed

My aloha never had a hood even as many others I’ve seen.I guess with the big kitchen window who needs a vent.I painted a hood from a cardinal and installed just for looks!Good luck with your decision🤔

Hamlet has two vents... the kitchen window and the roof vent which is quite close to being just above now stove. The early Compacts didn’t have one. I think they became standard with the toaster style trailers.

Perfect, that's all good stuff. I secretly did NOT want to cut hole up through my cabinet, then out of the wall, and through my new skin.... so I'm gonna just say the Fantastic fan will be the kitchen vent.

We have both a 110VAC stove top vent with fan, and Fantastic Fan. Since almost all camping we do is off the grid the Fantastic Fan is used frequently to exhaust all sorts of stale air from cooking and other sources. Even when hooked up with 110VAC we use the 12VDC roof vent fan more than the stove hood. With a little cross ventilation by opening a window furthest from the smelly source, it will completely exchange the air inside in a few minutes. Just don't forget to turn it off or you'll deplete the batteries.

Hi Friends,
Just to add anyway. My 57 Westerner just had the hood and it had no vent hole at all in the vent. No vent other than the roof vent and the jalousie over the sink.
My '55 Rod and Reel has no hood and no fan. Just a hole on the bottom of the cabinet over the stove that is the bottom of a tube from a roof vent on top of the trailer.

The 64 Yellowstone I just acquired also has a hood with no hole in it whatsoever. Very odd design I thought.
