Off to the paint shop for two coats of Toon-Brite Clear Coat. It's almost finished folks. Yes I took way too long on this one but with all that has happened in the last 4 years I'm not really surprised.

Off to the paint shop for two coats of Toon-Brite Clear Coat. Clear coat to keep the aluminum from oxidizing? Locally? You did the prep on this one.

Off to the paint shop for two coats of Toon-Brite Clear Coat. Clear coat to keep the aluminum from oxidizing? Locally? You did the prep on this one. We did all the prep we could. We masked too. The painter will do one more cleaning on it. He will also metal prep the raw aluminum door. I have already acid washed it and scotch brited it. Raw aluminum needs a prep right before paint. (Clear Coat). And yes the clear coat is actually mainly for UV protection. The mill side of the aluminum already has a clear coat to keep it from oxidizing but it is not UV resistant. So we used Toon-Brite clear coat which is UV resistant. They will need to apply a new coat every 3 years to keep it this way.

Here it is going into the paint booth. We had to take the wheels off and put it on dollies to get it as low as possible. She's there right now and I'll most likely get her back Monday or Tuesday. The stickers will be mounted as well under the clear coat.

Hi Friends, My dad was a collector of things and I had forgotten about this vintage gem. Cheers,
RodIt's amazing what our families accumulate over the years Rod. I have "organized" a hole in the barn so that I can store & work on my camper(s) out of the weather, no electric, but it's dry. This barn was build in 1981 (thereabouts) and most of the contents from the "old" barn, including the old barns lumber, was moved into the "new" barn. What is all that "stuff" one might wonder? Ya see, my family owned a funeral business for 104 years, along with furniture (they assembled), glass repair, floor covering / bathroom remodeling, and several other businesses. As you can tell by the photo, we pretty well still have all the "leftovers". "Don't throw that out, might need that some day THEN you'll have to go out and BUY one" (my family is the, shall we say; "tight" Dutch German and I'm afraid it runs in my veins as well) Sometimes it actually pays off... The 48 Mainline Silver Lodger is ever so slowly coming along. She's almost there. Installing glass now. This is how she sits today. A good old skydiving friend of mine made the Winged Silver Lodger emblems. So if you know anyone who needs emblems send them this way and I'll send them to my friend Kelly.... shastafam,I recommend you add a ground bar to your electrical box. White common wires and copper ground wires are never on the same bar in a trailer. The common bar should be isolated from the metal box and looks like it is. Ground bars are available at any hardware store and should be very easy to mount. Good luck. NOTE: this type of house wiring often causes GFCI tripping for a trailer.

My auto switching device to the onboard inverter required a bonded neutral....But thanks for the heads up. I've tested all the heavy hitters in the trailer and nothing has tripped my Main GFCI or anything else yet.

I started my 1956 Shasta project yesterday. I have the perfect storm on issues (some tragic some comical) going on now so I wouldn't call finishing this camper a sure thing. But my family has encouraged me to start because a man without a project is a royal pain to live with. ;-) The trip home last summer: My starting point yesterday: I may make the rot Hall Of Fame: Since Tom is doing (and has done) the definitive thread dedicated to this exact model Shasta I will just post photos here.

Day 2 The good side Putty is still soft after 65 years.
She is coming apart easily compared to my 62 Forester.

Yup, there's not much to a Shasta. I added cross boards to mine front and rear and it's a lot sturdier now. Here's a link to my albums; shows the cross boards. It didn't have any rot but sure needed a little more structure... 1957shasta.shutterfly.com/pictures
