I got my 1954 RCA Victor Desktop TV working real good. I also have all the episodes of I Love Lucy on DVDs. So this tv will be displayed in my 54 Jewel and playing I Love Lucy episodes at the rallies... I'm also finishing up the last of the cabinets on the jewel so I'll be building new walls next. Then once the walls are up the wrap goes on and we're in business. Photos of cabinets soon. That's really cool... What did you need to do to get the TV working? Is it a tube TV? Yes it's a tube type TV. This TV needed some new capacitors and a good cleaning. Also in order to get it to work properly with the DVD player I needed to put an RF modulator in line with the signal coming from the DVD player. All it does really is change the signal impedence coming out of the DVD player. These old TVs were not built to receive that kind of signal so the picture wasn't very good. Now it's a great black and white picture. That line you see is from the digital camera capturing the 60hz horizontal display. Can't see it with the human eyeball.

Well the skin went on pretty good considering we’re amateurs to rebuilding trailers. We also got the skin removed from the street side. Wow, it’s complete built different from the curb side! It’s going to take some thinking on to rebuild it. Like the curb side, the “studs” don’t line up with the cabinets which is why it is falling down.

Merry Christmas!
Yesterday the weather was great and I got a few things done. Repaired and cleaned/acid washed a couple of windows. Polish comes next.
I'm converting the Goucho to a full time bed in the 59 Airflyte. I cut, routered and started to shellac the piece that sits across the front of the bed.
And I put in the outlet for the new Fridge coming once we're back from Honduras.
Today I'll bake a Chocolate Cake (7 squares of Chocolate) and make lasagna for the family...then goof off.

Sounds Fun NCCamper! I love it! Did you have to re-screen the back of your jalousies? My galley jalousie has a very odd screen method. Did it look like this below? Finally, we finished all the riveting on the reassembly of my 1957 Westerner front window assembly last weekend. I used putty tape under the flanges of the dual pane window sub assemblies. Next steps include going over any gaps with gutter seal and the purchase of a front window glass pane and new glass for the quarter windows. Then, installation of all glass. Though, I may hold off on the center glass installation just because I am Broken Glass Phobic especially since the frame is not installed in the trailer. Just too easy to break. Cheers, Rod

The Shasta jalousie screens are mostly removable and in their own frames. Much easier. I'll have to replace the screens which have yellowed with age. I finished polishing two more windows tonight. As you know, Windows are slow work. I used to do them all at once and kept at it 8 hours a day for several days. Now I do two at a time with time off in between sets.
Tomorrow I hope to cut out the two windows (new skin) and install them.

Since it's very quiet here, I'll share small progress.
Since it was 70 degrees today (good enough to keep putty soft) I cut out two windows holes with my multi-tool and installed the windows.
Only 100 pieces to polish and the camper will start to look good! My wife says "$12,000 for this camper!"
Dare to dream.

nccamper it's a well known fact that it is highly impossible to make any money on restoring vintage trailers... As a matter of fact I think it's a law or something...

nccamper it's a well known fact that it is highly impossible to make any money on restoring vintage trailers... As a matter of fact I think it's a law or something... A money pit hobby. That’s for sure. I tell people if I work all day I make enough to pay for a McD’s lunch. But only for me, my wife has to eat at home. My sister is visiting and she said, “The windows look good for 60 years old”. I didn’t have the heart to tell her each window took 4+ hours to get in this condition.

The screens are metal and pressed into the groove. I have also used screen spline to help hold it in place.

This is not a staged photo. I was working on one of my benches and stopped to realize there were three projects going on at once. My other two benches look worse.
Funny. At the moment I'm... Polishing trim Cleaning windows Shellac on trim Building the bed frame Building out the fridge area And doing small electrical work
Am I the only one here doing too many things at once?

I have three trailers going on at the same time. Right now I'm doing shellac for all three of them.

I started work on the Airflyte front window. I really like this window. No other camper offers more light except maybe a Holiday House of Spartan with the wrap around glass. Unfortunately, at some point the glazing tape was replaced with a solid adhesive. Rock solid. It's a miracle the glass didn't break. I'll be all afternoon chipping it off. New Vintage Trailer Gasket around the (strange) tiny window near the bed. New back gasket also Vintage Trailer Gasket.

... putty knife type blade on that rock hard stuff that you are chipping away on the window. Putty knife worked great on window #1... #2 I was not as lucky. My first broken window.
