Check out my thread "1959 Metzendorf Clone" for more pics. Yes, completely scratch built, except for the frame.

Patty i used to build my frames from scratch, but found that, at least in Indiana, I can buy pop up campers, tear them down to the frame, and rebuild on them easier than building from scratch. For the size camper I build, most pop up frame are easily strong enough. Most pop ups are 1200-1800 lbs., and have 2000 lb axles. My campers usually come around 1200#. i even have a frame from a pop up, where the original tag states the gross weight was 2200 lb!! I have yet to use it for a project ,yet.

Talked with a Rep with the company building the new Shastas last week. They are not selling parts!, they ordered enough to build the 1900 or so units with, a percentage of surplus for damaged or otherwise un-useable items, plus a percentage for warranty replacement. But....I do have a close contact with the company most likely to get any surplus after the builds are complete, and warranties expire (might be a few years). The surplus items usually are auctioned, but this contact says he is working to acquire some items like windows separately from the auction. We will see.

Thanks. I bought a box of headboard lights at a garage sale a while back and have been re-working and installing them in my vintage restorations for quite some time. I was surprised to even find them , as most people have no idea they even exist. Let alone a box full of them. One pair had light blue globes, and I could not see using them in a camper, but I sold them to a lady that was decorating with blue and just had to have them.

link for those of you that are "ate up" as my wife puts it with the vintage stuff...Google" Wilsonart retro laminate"if you haven't already for some pretty cool patterns. We all know Formica has obsoleted their Boomerangs patterns. It is not cheap.. But those of us that just has to have it...well...shop on!
