Thanks SusieQ. You're right - not where I would have expected. Mine's a little different than yours, but there's a good-sized hole to put a pin through. Only on the curb side. And if I look closely, there's the word "LOCK" with an arrow pointing to it. D'oh!

Our '64 Compact has the original coupler. There's no hole to insert a pin or a lock to lock the coupler to the ball on the tow vehicle. This doesn't leave me with a warm feeling.
Is there a VTT-approved solution?
No hurry, as the Compact isn't going anywhere soon ...

Jealous!!! And this is your second! The pain is simply too much to bear. *snif* You'll find yours! Have faith. At some point, one will make itself known to you! The second one started out totally by accident. A random (nationwide) search of craigslist and a very impromptu decision to go on a road trip. Good luck!

I didn't have a flush-cut router bit handy and got to the point in the Compact project where it was time to cut (actually reshape) the hole for the water inlet. I tried a roto-zip side cut bit. It worked well. Mobiltec - according to the Freud router bit site, the 2-flute bits cut faster, the 3-flute bits make smoother cuts. Here's a pretty good price for a bit, especially if you've got Amazon Prime: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000225Y9/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I'll be using one of those to trim some Formica.

The AirFlyte we just got was in Rockton, Illinois (5 miles south of Beloit, Wisconsin). We live outside Santa Fe, NM.
2800 mile round trip. We looked at it as an opportunity to go on a road trip (and stay in some vintage motel rooms).

Welcome to the club! When we picked up our Compact, we spent two hours in an Autozone parking lot sorting out the lights.

Thanks for this. I've got a hole to cut in the Compact's skin for the water fill, and some Formica to trim. Looks like I'm heading to Home Depot (again).

Los Alamos, New Mexico. Halfway up a mountain (7200') with plenty of National Forest to camp in. We're refurbishing a '64 Shasta Compact. Next in line is this '63 Shasta AirFlyte. - Bryan

This is very similar to Sundance. We polished and waxed the original sides and re-puttied the edge trim. The back had to be painted because the hauler put some dents in it. The trailer went from this: to this: The roof was also painted. I don't think new paint will hurt the trailer, they all need work. The edge trim has to be done anyway. Awesome! You've convinced us - we're going to try and save the original paint on our AirFlyte. If it doesn't work out, we can always paint it later.

I don't know about the tank, but you're correct about the steel wool - it's to keep mice and other rodents out.
