Looks great so far! We have a 62 Airflyte as well! Do you have a picture of the spare tire mount for the rear bumper? Our is gone and I seem to never remember to put it in the back of my truck before a trip. I guess I would have to fabricate a replacement, but if you have a pic that would be awesome! Yes. Let me look at mine. I might be able to cut you a good deal on it if I can get the tire off LOL. I don't think we are going to use it. I will send you a message later tonight.

He is up the road in the other corner of the state from me.. just south of Chattanooga. He is either in business with, or very close to CH campers, the other supplier on this side of the world for aluminum. Which, BTW, is for sale.(CH campers) I saw a posting by the other on Craigslist last week.
I saw this post today and was suprised too about the space. I've seen some of his other stuff and he seems to do a pretty good restoration, at least from the photos of in progress stuff I've seen, as well as the finished product.

+1 More for the fantastic vent. More expensive, but well worth the $$ in IMHO, just for the fact that they move an enormous amount of air. I agree with what msgoehring said. Getting the smells out from cooking shouldn't be an issue.

Latest video on the rear framing of the walls and panels is up. A shoutout to mobiltec in this one for a great french polish explanation. I'm completely sold on the concept.

When I took mine apart, and then put it back together.. I wondered the same thing. I couldn't come up with a reason for it to be there, so I didn't rip it in there. It will show in the front, but that's preeety small and underneath the dinette anyways. I know this is not much more info that above, but I guess you can have one more person to blame if we all end up being wrong.

Glad to hear that worked out well. I've been looking at their mouldings and trying to figure out which ones to get. The free shipping to store makes this a no brainer in my opinion. Also, considering they have a wide selection of sizes and profiles is a plus too.

yes, Dad Rambles, those are exactly the boards I was referring to. Helps tremendously; thanks! Let me know if you need more exact measurements and I can get them to you. Good luck and post some photos when you get time.

OK, I'm slowly making progress in these brutal temps, and I'm at a bit of a standstill. I thought I was very good about taking photos and writing descriptions and making drawings as I disassembled, but I've found some instances where that wasn't necessarily the case. I'm at the point where I'm installing my sub-floor, (two layers of ply), and I know when I took the flooring apart that there were front and rear pieces of wood, framing for lack of a better term? I don't recall if these pieces laid down onto the metal frame and the flooring laid atop them, or if the plywood went down and these two pieces, that span side to side, were attached above the subfloor. I'm thinking underneath, but I can't really see any evidence of it in the photos of the framing that I did take, which leads me to believe that it was removed before the flooring? I know this is vague, and probably only would have affected those who did an off-the-frame restoration, but can anyone lend any advice here? This will hold up progress as I don't want to get the flooring all screwed down with lag bolts only to find out that I'd missed a step. This is all happening today and tomorrow, the frame will then be towed to a heated location on Thursday, heated up to temperature, and Saturday (Christmas eve) I'll lay the tile down. This sis the only time I can have access to the empty, heated garage I'll be using, so it's a tight timeline that isn't ideal, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about or not. This is at the rear of my 62. IMG_20161125_170426 by gunguy05, on Flickr IMG_20161125_170431 by gunguy05, on Flickr This is a sandwich. The top board is ripped to a 45 degree angle (I think), the bottom board is the piece that I ripped off. It matched up perfectly as far as the angle, so I guess it has to be a 45 and a 45. The middle is the subfloor (top), and the soundboard (bottom). This is just past where the floor overhangs the framing that is running lengthwise on the trailer, which is 2x3's or thereabouts. Not sure if this helps at all... but maybe?

We are planning to go to the TCT rally in Brookville Florida which is the last weekend in Feb. So wife says what the heck, let's go for the whole month!! Yes I love this woman. We are going to make it to St. Augustine for several days then .. who knows, and it's the reason for this thread. Anyone have must see places, and favorite campgrounds to visit in the winter while in Florida. We will for sure make a go of seeing the manatees probably in Silver Springs, and try and catch a Tigers game in Lakeland, but other than that we are open...Any help? Thanks. If you are in St Augustine, and like wine, checkout San Sebatian winery. Also, there is a new gin distillery in town I want to checkout next time I'm down there, I've heard good things about it. Also, a little further south, Tomoka SP in Ormond beach is a favorite of ours. We have camped there several times. Blue springs is good for seeing manatees (so I've heard).. We have yet to get down there at the right time...which is right now.

Video is up covering the rear floor replacement. Thanks to mobiltec for making this easy in his videos. His covers it much better than mine. I really thought this was going to be difficult, but it's really not. Just take it one step at the time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf4due1d3jQ

the POR-15 system is a solid, well-reviewed paint/rust-inhibitor. That's what I used (on my frame-off rebuild). As a understand it, you brush the loose stuff off and encapsulate the rest with the the POR right? About how much did it take?

I was just wondering how many here normally paint the frame on a non-frame off rebuild. With the frame off, it's a no-brainer, but I was just wondering if it was worth the trouble otherwise.
I haven't gotten to the front yet, but if that is a floor replacement of any size, I will definitely paint under there. I didn't under the back, and now I wish I would have.
Also, if you do paint, what do you use. I was looking at POR-15.
Thanks,

Gary, Sam said that he had to stretch a 2x6 across the width of the trailer and climb out on that to reach the screws in the roof and around the vent. He then had to tap the screwdriver with a hammer, or grind a new slot in the screws to get them out. Depending on your size you might need to double up on the 2x to hold you up, but that way the weight is transferred to the walls and not the rotted roof. The top of our walls were really rotten also and this worked for him. Might help you reach the ones you're having trouble getting. I agree. All I had was 2x4's, so I turned them up on the sides (I beam style) and laid 2 across the top of my trailer, and then put a short 2x6 under them running lengthwise to spread the weight out along the sidewall. I put a piece of 2x6 on top and said on it. I'm 250 and it worked quite well for me. I didn't 'like' doing it.. but it did work. I had my wife hold the other side down while I was climbing on and off so that it didn't teeter up and throw me.
