We checked all that. No soft wood. The one concern I have is in the closet. We plan to do another inspection before heading home but I'm pretty decided. Here is a picture my husband took of electric stuff (he's an electrician so that's always a big concern for him) in the closet. You can see some discoloration in the wood. Mold?

We saw it and I LOVE it! Everything about it. Making plans to come back to pickup. The ONE thing that has us worried is that there is no title. Only a bill of sale. We won't be going back until next week sometime so we're going to be finding out how hard itll be to obtain one. She could definitely be our baby!

We're headed to see this one. She sent me a couple more pictures. 3 hours in the car with two little boys is always an adventure.

Lol! I need to post a picture of our "tent". We only camp in RV spots that have hookups. We have a Kodiak canvas tent with an attached, enclosed awning. When set up (usually takes about 2 hours) it has a queen air mattress and bunk bed cots for the boys. Our 3 dogs also sleep in it with us. With space in between the two beds. I'm not a primitive camping kind of gal. Before I got married, my parents had campers. So although I feel like I'm primitive camping in our tent...I know we arent. We even bring our portable AC. One of the biggest reasons we're now searching for a trailer is that we always see people pull in and there they are. While it takes us hours to set up and break back down. Lol!

I'm in TN. As far as I know, we don't need a title for it. They changed the law last year I believe. Then again, I could be wrong. I know we don't have to have one for our trailer (that we travel with). And from what I read, it falls under the same category and is considered a trailer.

Opinions on this one? She says everything works. Bought in May. She will send more pictures in a little while. This one is bigger than the others. I have a Chevy Traverse that I'll be towing with. She says it's 22' with the tongue. carbondale.craigslist.org/rvs/5231316520.html

I am going to swim against the current on this one. boholady...I went back and read all your posts. You say "we" are looking for our first vintage camper, but you did not indicate how many people will be enjoying it. If there are just you and a significant other, this Trotwood is worth considering. You said your budget is $5K. This Lark is in the same class as the MUCH COVETED canned ham shaped Shasta Compact. It can be towed by almost anything. Ones this size are fairly easy to re-sell. Trotwood has been making campers since the 40's I believe. The photos are not good. I do not believe $3K firm is really that firm. I'd bet each day it gets staler, the actual price to buy it gets a lot closer to $2500 cash...half your budget. If you have a couple kids that would not be able to take advantage of maybe a child hanging cot, which this might have, I'd say it is too small, but it could be a good entry level cute vintage camper for a couple, and nccamper's tutorial on a paint job could transform the exterior, while just taking a nibble out of the remaining half of your budget. A camper the size of this Lark (1200#-ish) is also going to be the most economical to tow as far as not reducing your mpg the way a 16' camper weighing 50% to 100% more will do. This is one I would personally inspect if within a comfortable drive. I would take my ice pick though, and hope to be pleasantly surprised (while planning on taking advantage of at least the obvious sign of previous leakage in the front curb side corner as mentioned by redhed83402 to drive that "firm" price down to $2500). Thank you for this very informative response. It is actually my husband, myself, and two toddlers. I was worried about size too but was trying to decide if we could make it work. We are used to being in a tent and spend most of our time outside. Unless it's raining, or we are sleeping, we will be outside. Two toddler boys need to be outside to burn off all that energy. Weight is definitely a concern as we will be towing with my Chevy Traverse.

To me, paint is a warning sign. Did they cover rot inside or damage outside? How would you know? Here is my standard first email for a painted camper: -- Hi, Can you send me photos of the camper before you painted it? Inside. Outside. Any damage that was repaired. Also, can you send me photos of the springs and hitch area? When was the last time you towed it and how far? -- If they tell you they have no photos before it was painted, walk away. If they send blurry photos, ask them for clear ones. I am the King of Travel when it comes to seeing vintage campers. I fly for free because my wife works for an airline. Traveling to see a camper is a lot of work. Thank you! We went to see another trailer that was close by and they had definitely used paint to cover damage. Inside and out. I had no idea people did that but it was obvious that's what they had done. So paint makes me uneasy too. I have asked for more pictures. If he doesn't have any or won't send more, I'll be walking away with no regrets.

I'd be willing to drive to the one in Seguin. Only because I have family in LA and could justify the trip as a trip to see them. Also, I could pick them up to go with me. We dont mind having to do small repairs. We figured we would have to with our price range but we aren't up for any large projects.

Where are you at again, boholady? I am going to have a 1967 kit companion up on the market soon, but i am in Idaho. I just brought it home tonight. I am going to reseal all the j rails, fiz some lights, re-key & reskin the hatch, fix a latch or two, paint her & sell her. She came to me with original papers, stickers, badges, even a key to the front door! And she is in absolutely AMAZING vintage condition. Her skins have a few dings, but we literally ran out the door to get her!.......ok, just a word of warning ~ this whole vintage trailer thing...it sort of gets in your blood, & bites yah good. It's ...dare i say... a touch addicting. Just run while you can..... :-D I'm in TN. Wish I was closer!

I know I keep posting about trailers I'm finding. Once I extended my search to the surrounding areas it seems there are a lot more. I'm still talking with the guy about the Traveleze. I also just emailed someone about this one. What do you think? This is the look I love but it's very small. I have asked for more pictures. nashville.craigslist.org/rvs/5230873126.html
