I'm getting ready for J-rail and realized I probably need to order an awning rail if I plan to have an awning in the future (which I do). I have no idea how to break up the J-Rail and Awning rail. Does the awning rail go below the J-Rail or in lieu of J rail at some parts? Can't seem to find a good picture to help me with this.

The jrail starts then stops, then the awning rail takes its place, the dont run next to each other. But awning rail is super hard to bend I tried to put a new piece on mine and broke it and I was using a torch. I ended up just making my old one work. Yep...as mentioned the J-rail stops and the awning rais goes in between. Here's a close up of mine back by the wing. I have a '65 Airflyte with the more square shape like your Compact. Awning starts about 3" in on the rear and 2" in up front...right as the radius terminates. My J-rail was beat to hell...I straightened as best I could.

A few years back, I purchased on of these and it helped in straightening out the awning rail on 2 Shasta's and a Serro Scotty. Found it on eBay and could only get it from the United Kingdom, but well worth it!

Ross How does that awning rail spreader work? Do you just use a hammer to drive one end of that thing through the length of the awning rail? Just a guess but it looks like the ends of that tool might be different diameters. lol...never mind. I just did a Google search and answered my own question...yep, that's essentially how it works. Neat idea!

The reason for 2 different ends, there are at least 2 different diameters of the awning rails.
I used a hammer to drive the spreader into the awning rail and rocked the spreader up and down to straighten up the damaged areas. It's a great tool to have!

Found it on ebay for about $15. Amazon was $60 plus and said it couldn't ship to my area.
