Hello All, I'm looking at buying the below 1969 Cardinal from a local restorer. Could anyone give me there opinion on what the trailers worth (he's asking $7400.00)? I think the asking price is high and would like to go into the deal a little bit more "informed". Here's the Craigslist ad: fortcollins.craigslist.org/tro/d/vintage-1969-cardinal-camper/6285910744.htmlAny and all thoughts are welcome! Thanks all!

It looks like a nice trailer, but I can't get past the painted interior. Ask to see pictures of all the work done, a good restorer would be more than proud to show them. I am sure someone, more knowledgeable than I, can answer your questions.

Probably a Putty and Paint job. Ask to see photos of the build. If they did not remove the skins and replace any rotted wood then it's junk. If they actually did replace all of the rot in the trailer then it's still high priced. The Cardinals are not very well built from the factory.

I agree with chickenfarmer and Mobiltec, ask for photos.
"This gem has been completely restored inside and out."
These days people are posting photos of their toothbrush on Facebook. So nobody restores a camper without taking photos. Ask for photos before the restoration, during and after. Tell them you want to see the areas with the most water damage. If they say "We didn't take photos", walk away.
As for the price, $7400 seems on the high side for a late 60s camper that was painted inside. But if they took it down to the frame and rebuilt it, the price is not totally unreasonable. I assume they have a title in their name with the correct year and brand? It's worth asking.
A few basics: No title worth less. Paint is worth less than amber woodwork. 1950-1962 costs more than late 60s early 70s. Ham shaped campers are worth more than toasters.
Some people love the painted look but most paint the inside to hide rotten or stained wood.
Take an ice pick or very small screwdriver and climb under it. Poke around discreetly for rotten wood. If the wood is rotted anywhere then the ""This gem has been completely restored inside and out." comment isn't true.

I would need to see all the work from start to finish before I would spent that type of money. Get those pictures, look at it in person and also check the framing and walls for soft spots. You're at the end of the season so price can always be negotiated. If he doesn't have pictures of what he did along the way I would walk away.
ChickenFarmer, I am with you as well, I like the real stained wood look better and also then I can tell if there is an issue because a coat of paint can hide alot.

OH! One more thing. The diamond plate on the outside is about as tacky looking as a window air conditioner hanging out one of the windows.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow (with all my notes in hand). If he has the build pictures, title and is willing to negotiate down to 5K I'll probably be taking her home otherwise I'll keep looking.
On a side note I actually like the interiors color scheme ha.

Cool looking trailer. Kinda rat rod looking. Little chrome with the black paint and red wheels. I like it. Looks like it's gone though with post deleted.
