Ok guys, is it even remotely possible to get a metal frame or fabricate one that will work fairly easily? Mine does not have one and noticed recently that it should. All I have is wood framing. And of course with that comes a lack of squareness depending on trailer weight distribution during use and jacking it up and down. Could I get my with some discreet metal framing in the corners to keep it square?

Rich, I think your trailer would be happiest with an aluminum door frame. That's really the best way to prevent water incursion between the skin and the wall framing. You might try contacting trailertrasher or one of the recently posted new vintage builders that have been discussed recently. www.chcamper.comwww.americanvintagecamper.com/pages/contact.htmlDon't have any experience with either of these two but maybe worth a try.

Thank you for the referrals, I have contacted CH Campers and they can custom build the whole door and frame brand new for 275. So that's good. Even though I don't currently have an extra 300 to blow I don't think that's a terrible price. Gonna call a place that's closer to me and compare proces, go from there. Just to maybe avoid shipping charges for the door.

A second quote from another trailer restoration company rang me in at a hefty $1000. Absolutely ridiculous. And that's unpainted. I don't understand the difference in price. I told the guy the price someone else is charging, ($300) these people think there's no other game around.

Has anyone ever used a steel frame to enhance security?

Good question, I imagine not probably because of the weight and rust. But can't get much more secure than that, although anything the steel can attach to won't be as strong as the steel itself. Haha

Steel and aluminum don't mix. If you want more security just put a dead bolt in. That stops them from even thinking about prying the door open.
So they just rip a window to shreds and get in that way.

I'd do a search for images of your trailer and look closely at door or ask forum members for pictures and dimensions of their door frame to see exactly what you need. I had to rebiuld most my door and replaced one side of frame, if you'd like you can read about it on this post. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/5946/64-shasta-astrodome-field-find?page=2Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time out to show me your thread and suggestions. I was thinking that as well, to get a metal shop to bend out something for me. Besides getting a lock that is secure as maybe a dead bolt lilt mobiltec says, the door itself is fine. I just need something to make it a snug tight fit. I should show you guys what my door area looks like. It's kind of weird.

As for now it seems quite appealing to get the CH Campers to get a brand new assembled door and frame. I can make back the 300 thwy charge quicker than I could rebuilding the whole thing myself. Haha I really like that price. They seem very reasonable. And sent me a photo of one of ther replicas and what the door looks like. That's really cool.

I'm surprised you can't find a replacement door/frame, even from a different style of camper. trailertrasher?

I have a video showing how to make the threshold. Your metal jamps are the same kind of door jamb metal that was in my 59 Shasta but I am replacing it with smooth aluminum. The closing side of the side jambs should be bent into the same shape as the threshold. That is in order to provide a stop for the screen door. Then the other jamb and the header should be just one 90 degree bend.
You don't have a bender but if you find a metal shop to do your bending they can see this video so they know what they are making.

Thanks Larry I will look more closely into that video, that's cool the same thing for a threshold can be a jamb. So those pieces are original to my camper. Hmm. Well of so, it seems that mine didn't have a screen door. In any case, does the threshold need a stop if I don't need a screen door?
