Ha! I'm not an idiot after all although my wife would disagree. I used some Birch paneling for the inner panel and had to bend a new edge trim and I'll need to make trim piece for the bottom edge as well.I need to pull it all apart insulate and figure out what to coat the wood with, poly, stain or use some amber shellac.Any recommendations? What was used back in the day? Thanks Mike 63 Simone weInt ahead and used some hasta astrodome by Mike Rosson, on Flickr

I went with the amber shellac and sure like the way it looks. I'm really enjoying the wood interior of the Shasta trailer,it has to be one of the coolest things about canned ham trailers. 1 coat of amber shellac by Mike Rosson, on Flickr

I'm curious as to whether or not you have your own hand brake for bending the new door metal... I make my own door metal also and use a 14 foot hand brake that a friend of mine owns.

I have a 3 in 1 harbor freight shear/ brake and roller that works for small stuff but just picked up a 1950's 6'pan brake which is a pretty amazing piece of equipment. Picked up an old 4' shear as well. Love having these tools.

The door looks great! I would love to know how you made the metal trim?

I can totally relate to polishing silverware on the titanic (your door). Sometimes, in the face of insurmountable odds, you just have to fix something, anything to get you started.

The door looks great! I would love to know how you made the metal trim? Thank you Mel,I was able to bend on a sheet metal brake like it was originally made back in the 60's. Not really that hard with the right tools. I bet a sheet metal shop could easily do it for you very reasonably.

You are absolutely right, great sense of accomplishment. I still had about 10 hours of work rebuilding that door and I can only imagine how long it's going to take to rebuild this whole thing. Thanks Dan
