Yes sir, I think we probably do have similar interiors. I think mine may "change" though. It's looking like I may need to replace a good portion of my interior paneling including bottom half of back wall, curb side rear side, and a significant portion of the roof panels. From my research, there is no way I can duplicate this particular paneling. Soo, I may have to go all out, all in, so to speak.....and redo all the interior (including cabinets) to a new color. Question for all the smart folks on this fine forum Do you folks know if my year Shasta came with the soft glowing birch finish inside? I'm hoping they all weren't the dark photo finish panel theme and I have some room for change. Thoughts?

I do not think the second generations had birch. But, the early ones had a light paneling very similar to some available paneling. However, that doesn't mean you can't use birch. This is my '65

Sweet.. Thanks SQ. A couple of the hardwood/plywood sites we've been talking about on the forum also carry matching veneer which would certainly come in hand for the cabinentry if I go that route.

The 68 1500 that I am currently working on had white wash type plank paneling from the factory. It will be Birch when done. Made in Indiana early 68.

Busy day. I spent about five hours on old Dottie today. Finished removing the top skin nails/staples, removed front window louver (spelling), front window, front skins, crimped the top skin edges/made em flat (see, I do listen), used some of the new tools you cats have recommended (work great), raised the roof , realized (no surprise) that there is quite a bit of damage around the roof vent and radiating quite a bit in the front roof portion, found on the curb side/front corner where somebody had went to town with silicone, and I was robbed! Yes, a good portion of the front/lower insulation had been stolen from Dottie! Upon completing an in depth investigation, mice were the culprits. I'll post a handfull of pics in the next few posts.. the journey continues.

Crime scene.. Little suckers made off with a ton of insulation and obviously had an established sleeping area in the lower front of the trailer.

Front window wood looks pretty good.. no need to take the front apart, hopefully, just the lower wood need fixing. A pic of the roof vent from the top shows what was suspected, fun times ahead.

You're doing this the right way, RJ!
I had to laugh when I saw your hung roof with the rear shape still intact. My Loliner was the same way, no way to straighten that bend, in fact it even had tape on the underside to preserve that.
Have fun with the build.

Yes sir, I tried to brace the old girl's top hat the best I could without compromising the shape (didn't know I was gonna do so much today and had to use some of the new framing fir I bought for the roof lift bracing.. dang nabbit). I don't know it it's visible in the pic but I did end up putting a couple of nylon ropes fore and aft, side to side, in an effort to prevent any bending of the curves. Almost took it up too high initially though for the shop door to open. This rookie learns something at each bend in the road.

Coined a new phrase this evening. "Panel channels".. plastic dillamajiggies that hold sections of panels and attached in odd ways. I'll get a pic up when I can. Mobiltec didn't tell me about these They're actually pretty inventive but are gonna take a bit of fannagaling to get the old Shasta's bad top frame off without ruining adjoining things (and the dillamajiggies). Just teasing Larry, you know I'm working on a newer, GEN II Shasta and plastic "things" are causing me a bit of head scratching. Heck, without your VIDS, I'd be be lost in the trailer jungle. RJ

OK, the panel channels are nothing more than a pretty smart way Shasta devised to put up ceiling panels (in the GEN II's). Plastic pieces that are "guttered" fore and aft that hold the panels. Dottie's front 1/3 top came off tonight. I really wanted to "kick" it off like Mobiltec did in his VID but couldn't quite swing it (my inner ninja just wasn't working, lol). It came off in pieces, some pretty small.. I feel like I made some progress tonight and will be working on cutting the perfect piece (pieces) to place back in aforementioned panel channels. Kim and I have came to the realization that the interior dark paneling on the 72 cannot be duplicated so "paint" schemes are being devised. It is what it is but I'm sure old Dot will be sweet as a cherry cheesecake when she finally rolls off out of the shop. Here's a few pics of tonights endeavors.
