John Palmer...with Amerimax making the siding, it may actually lower costs for those that want to re-skin...I had just never heard any rebuilders or restorers that I correspond with/respect as sources of knowledge, referring to siding on vintage campers as log cabin siding...the quote, leads me to believe that must have been what the siding was referred to in that original print pack from 1961, or the person who prepared the press release is not a "vintage" PR person...who instead just called it like s/he saw it. Maybe that is what the design engineers did call it...smh. LOL, Yup.......that's total marketing buzz from someone sitting behind a desk. It might have occurred in 1961, or many be it was yesterday. Log cabin siding "sounds cooler" than 5" Brake Pattern.
But we are a nation driven by WALLSTREET marketing hype. Let's see who remembers,
POP POP, FIZZ FIZZ, OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS............
SEE......THE.......U.S.A.,.......IN A CH......T.........
And the marketing campaign that "out lived the company", the Burma Shave fence post campaign.
And it goes on,...........I guess there was actually a life before the iPad

Bruce, I have heard the siding pattern referred to as Log Cabin Siding but that's not the technical name. As John said the machines roll the brakes into the metal and most are geared to 4" patterns and multiples of 4 inch patterns by moving the material over a bit and running it through again. I've done this at Hemet Valley RV and Metal. Steve was impressed because he didn't know how to do it at first LOL... I have videos showing how all this is done if you are interested... The newer patterns are discussed in the videos as well.

mobiltec, I would love to see the videos, as would other Members I'm sure. They are all over my website Bruce... Here's one with Steve Loomis from Hemet Valley RV lecturing us on different patterns.

Does anyone know what the payments one of these would be? how long do they finance? Universal, it is my understanding that they will be sold by RV dealers. Several of them are advertising. Your best bet would to be to find a dealer near you and consult with them.

Some other company tried this about 6 or 7 years ago. with a 12 footer I think. They didn't get very far with it before another company bought them and they, the latest company stopped the whole deal because it just didn't fit in with their giant road condos with three slide outs and 6 TV's. I thought the trailers were cute but sort of low tech. They just had a hot plate for a stove and some other stuff like that. a moderm version with little frills. I couldn't tell if they had a market or not. Still not all that sure if they will sell. I would hope they would be built better than the old ones which were indeed built like crap. On that note, there is a list somewhere of industrial design things that were so successful they deserve to be on such a list. Things like the Volkswagen beetle, the 1911 Colt 45 Simi automatic, the Vespa scooter, The Remington typewriter, The Sunfish sailboat. If it isn't, the Shasta trailer should be on the list too, regardless of how poorly they were assembled. You can't knock success so no wonder there are still people trying to remake them. In the modern world of rolling condos I just don't know how people really want a new throw back trailer. We'll see, I guess. Wayne

I got blasted on TCT's Facebook page yesterday by someone who had ordered one, for referring to the reissues as Abominations. Apparently if you pay close to $17k for a imitation you get defensive! The way I see it, the reissues are only about 10% of their 1961 counterparts,
They look like a Shasta, shape and size, They have wings and white walls but that's about it.
The siding is too narrow, the tear drop lights are a weird shape, and the door is in the wrong place, too close to the wheel well. The paneling is faux wood the rear bed is unusable, and if you pull it out, it'll block the bathroom door. There is no storage and the windows are just odd, the street side is like Swiss cheese with hook-ups, A/C and vents. I can't remember but I think the flooring is just sheet vinyl. From what I've read from people who've seen one in person and posting on F/B is their fit and finish is not that great.
See..ABOMINATIONS!

I try to keep my mouth shut on TCT's FB page and just enjoy the pics. Sometimes, I can't refrain, like when someone thinks they should goop their roof or when someone suggests they do. True vintage collectors and lovers understand the abominations of repros. Someone wanting a cool NEW trailer doesn't see it that way. Same thing with repros of vintage cars. I get the same reaction with my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Classic Jeepsters tend to hate it. And I understand. It even got labeled "Concrete Goddess" by my former stepson who pulled me out of the sand. It's a love/hate situation. I could have stayed traditional with my brother's old Cherokee, but then I wouldn't have been able to afford the gas to drive it. The real test will be the test of time. Is what looks cool functional? A few years down the road we'll see what the repro owners have to say and how their resale value holds up. My vintage Shasta is worth the same thing it sold for new or more P.S. My Jeep Cherokee is extremely functional for MY needs.

I can't stand forums for the most part. This is the only one I use.... I love the people here. I don't tweet or do FB or any of the other 5 to 10 redundant apps that everyone just can't seem to live without. This "ME" world has gone way overboard. The human race is doomed. Manners have been replaced with little electronic dooms day machines called cell phones. Even sex has been replaced with electrons now. How did we ever get along without all this crap?

LOL........I guess they will just need to put "both of us" out in the pasture to live out our days!
Everything gets marketed "as progress", but it's hard to see any improvements after you look past, the "its faster" aspect.

Somehow I feel like a "fake" vintage trailer defeats the purpose of the creativity and live energy that you pour into a rebuild. If you do a rebuild the right way.. it's no longer just a Shasta.. its now an expression of you! Anyone who has been to Vegas to see the fake Eiffel tower, and the fake Venice with the gondola's, and is satisfied with that... instead of Paris and Italy, well what can you say? Except... the greatest form of flattery is imitation!
