Awesome stuff. You are now the grizzled explorer who has lived to tell the tale of your adventures!
Hope the rest of the trip goes nice and smooth with no surprises. Thanks for letting us travel along with you!

I'm thinking summer blockbuster, working on the screenplay. How about Tom Hanks as ncamper?

You’re not going to believe this, round 2 just started. Lightning, hail, Gail force wind. A flashflood warning alert just came over the phone. I’m hiding in the old 1956 Shasta that I was working on.

Day 4
The camper is coming together. I'm not keeping the skin which makes it easier to add support. I bought a new tent today and set it up in the morning and returned to the campground at the end of the day to find the river flooded and my tent was floating towards NJ. I gave up on camping and moved to a cabin.
So far I've been in Kerrville 48 hours and there has been two hail storms, two floods and a tornado. But the storm has passed and the evening is beautiful. Pulling part of the tree off my tent. I brought the lumber with me. I'm short one 2x4 but otherwise so far so good. Twister 2 starting

Hey, we don't order up the weather here, it just arrives! But it is true that every trailer I've bought in Texas had hail damage. Note: sometimes in the floodwaters you see snakes and big floating balls of fire ants - looks like he missed those. (so far)

As a former Austinite I can attest to the fire ants; they make murder wasps seem like whiny mothers-in-law.

Day 5 It's a beautiful night. Not a cloud in sight. I reinforced the camper as much as possible. If you’re a true vintage lover you may not want to look at the following photos but it had to be done. It took a little doing getting the camper on the trailer without a tow vehicle hooked to it. I chained it, ratchet strapped the wheels, and used 6 racket straps on the frame. I blocked the span with 4 2x8s to rest the hitch on. I used existing holes in the deck to bolt the 2x8s to the transport.
I used industrial grade pallet wrap to make sure nothing will fly off. It’s my latest invention. I call it Ham Wrap.
Remember, the key to a successful trip is not letting your truck devolve to this point. Tomorrow starts the long journey home.
P.S. I bet you're wondering how I got the camper on the transport with no vehicle attached to it...I'll never tell.

That’s a great idea with the plastic wrap. I saw it on a flippn RV episode.

Keep an eye on the wrap. I did that and didn't wrap it tight enough and it started to blow off. Otherwise have a safe trip and thank you for saving the Shasta.
