Re: 64 Shasta 16SC- Does the top plywood on the gaucho bed go all the way to the back wall when the bed is closed ( in couch form)? Currently this is what I have- top one does not reach back wall, but plywood underneath does. When top is pulled out- the panel underneath meets its edge thus creating a flat surface for the bed. So....with gaucho in its couch form, below is what it looks like. I am still trying to figure out this darn bed! haha Maybe I have it right- but just checking THanks IMG_4486 by kathy, on Flickr

I am working on mine right now and the one board is 3 feet wide and doesn't move. The moving side is 2 feet wide on my gaucho. The 2 foot board sits under the 3 foot board. The 3 foot board is nailed only at the back of the frame next to the back wall. If you look at my link in my signature you may be able to see more.

On My 1963 Astrodome the rear Gaucho had the top (moving panel) went all the way to the wall when closed. The front Gaucho went almost all the way to the all but not quite. I didn’t like the uneven panels (when pulled out) so I cut a piece of ply that l just lay down when it is in the bed form, it’s really unnecessary with the density of the foam I used in the cushions, but I feel better about it. The extra piece of ply is just stored behind the cushions againt the wall when not in use. I went simple thinking if they would have done something back then what would it have been.
