The original countertop laminate was a tad thicker than the new stuff I installed. Today I put the metal trim back around the sink- and it sits high off of the countertop due to the thickness difference. Was thinking of caulking- but don't think that's the best solution. Think I can bend the lip down that sits on the counter so that the gap disappears? How best to do that? Really don't want to remake the trim- as it is in great shape, just a little off. Thoughts?? Maybe cut a 1/8 of an inch off the bottom of the trim or maybe you can bend the angle past 90 degrees.

The only thing I can think of is putty tape to fill the gap, under the flange, then caulk the edges very neatly. Even silicone might work in this case; it's easier to smooth than other caulks. Practice a lot before caulking. There's no hurry and you want it perfect.

I had the same problem, filled with putty tape but don't really care for the look. I like the idea of caulking, will do that. Thanks vikx Also just as an added solution. I found this product at www.americantechnologyinc.com/product-category/seamfil/ It's a product made to fill the seams or damage in formica. Since it's called Seamfil, maybe it could be used to fill the space after putty. The advantage is that it's colored to specifically match your laminate. Not sure it would work in this application but might be worth checking out. After checking this website out further, they also sell color matched caulk. |

Most plumbers would use plumbers putty there. I did under mine and probably should have used clear silicone for a nicer appeance

I like Tom's idea, but wow, you'd have to be a precisionist to trim 1/8 and make it look good...

Hello I did not get new trim- it's what was originally around the kitchen sink. In good shape- so reusing. Thanks all for the ideas- I will let you know what I did!  |
