I live in Indiana. My hope is to work on a camper this winter during my slow work season. My title recovery search states that Vermont will issue a registration, in my name, for just about anything over 15 years old for $48. Then supposedly have that transferred into my home state as a title. Thanks for your reply, Greg A friend of mine in IN offered to title the one I have if IL won’t let us do a Homemade.

Greg Because of the amount of frame work done to the trailer before building on it, we were able to meet the criteria for a home made trailer title. Therefore, I don’t have the IN details to answer your question. Sorry for the let down. Edit to add: If you’re in IL, another option is a “bonded” title. You must get the trailer appraised before applying. It was the strong recommendation of an officer to make sure you do this when the trailer is in its worst shape, as you have to post 2x the value of the trailer, in cash, with the state, to secure the bonded title.

Rod The Vermont process will work, but watch some Youtube videos on how to fill out the form. There's a specific way to have do it, or they will kick it back to you. Some FYIs: Your trailer has to have an empty weight of more than 1500 lbs. There's also unconfirmed rumors that this process may soon be restricted to VT residents, so hurry. Also, some states are giving people a hard time with the VT titles, so be aware. Sometimes it may be cheaper and easier to go the bonded title route, depending on your patience and value of the trailer.

I'm in South Jersey and I just purchased a 1965 Shasta Airflyte with no title. The DMV is extremely strict out here and I have to go through the channels of improper evidence of ownership to acquire a title. Has anyone had an success in this process?

I agree with Rod, Vermont is worth considering. My brother did it with antique cars.
