Wait till you see me in the campground with a portable swimming pool... Horton Creek now has water and I have more than enough hose I can fill the small pool with. Actually it's a stock tank. I also have a rubber boat I can fill up with water and I can carry that a lot easier. My dog Tabby died last year so she is no longer camping with me. I have been looking for a new four legged friend but just haven't found her yet. If anyone knows of or has a litter of Lab Mix puppies or maybe a 1 to 3 year old blonde lab mix female that has not ever had a litter, let me know. We can work out shipping or something.

The bug zapper was something else for sure. But we had to turn it off or the whole thing was going to catch on fire. It brought in every bug for a one mile radius I think. It was completely overwhelmed and was actually starting to drip burning bug glops and we were worried that it may explode or something.
I have almost given up on looking for a dog around here. For some reason, the shelters around my area only seem to have pit bulls, rots and those little mexiican dogs. I have no idea how to spell it. (chiwawas) Haven't seen anything even close to a lab in over a year. And I'm not going to pay some puppy mill $800 for a dog that they claim is pure bread. I don't really want a pure bread dog anyways. I prefer a mix because they are healthier.

Is there a group that places "unwanted" Labs in homes? We have a couple Icelandic Sheepdogs, and breeders will often require a buyer to agree to use an adoption service rather than a shelter if the dog doesn't work out. That being said, everyone loves Labs, and they are easy care dogs, so there wouldn't be many to place. Icies, on the other hand, are working dogs, and a little higher energy for more years. Our older one is 15 next month and still loves mile or two walks every day. We're thinking he still has at least a couple years left in him. Good luck, a camping (or backpacking) trip is always more fun with pups around.

I was just given a pretty good link from what it looks like. The group hunts them down from shelters to give-aways to unwanted pups and everything. It lists way more lab mixes than any of the others. And they don't want to come inspect my house with a white glove. It's a dang dog. Dogs roll in the dirt and that's on a good day when there isn't something dead or otherwise stinky to roll in. Had a dog all my life and I think I can handle one more in my lifetime so I'm going for it. But I don't need to attend and pay for a $150 training deposit. That's just a scam to get around the puppy mill law in my book.

Yup, we'd pass on the training deposit, too. We all choose our dogs for our own reasons. Labs and Goldens are nice, pretty easy going dogs = after puppyhood anyway. We chose our Icies for a very specific reason, and given the same circumstances, would do the same.

In our area they get more for mutts now than registered breed pups it is silly. We had German Shepards for years then they started breeding them to be lower in the rear quarters and all kinds of hip and life span problems occurred. A guy I know has a lab/standard Poodle mix and she is a fantastic dog. Good luck in your future adoption of a "new boss".

Wish you lived closer to Dallas Larry. Our local little shelter is completely free and they have lots of good dogs there. And the shelter is smart--they post all the animals on Facebook and if their time is almost up they post that too. I don't think they have had to euthanize an animal in a long time, which is great!!
You're right about just "knowing" when you find your dog. Both of ours are shelter dogs--I got the first one because my mom used to send me pictures from Petfinder almost every day. I didn't want a dog but she wanted my son to have one. Well one day she sent me a link to a dog and I just couldn't stop thinking about--couldn't sleep that night even. So I went and got him the next day. He was 10 months old and had been in a shelter his whole life. Best dog in the world!!!!

Ya I need someone to walk me each day. Don't want to get fat. If anyone wants to know how I treat my dogs they can just go look at my exploring and camping videos. Or they can talk to my Vet of the last 30 years. She has recently become semi-retired and is only performing surgeries now. I will miss her too. Best vet I have ever seen or known. Back to the original post, Yes.... we are getting old. It's not just you.

Back to the original post, Yes.... we are getting old. It's not just you. Maybe someone (you) needs to start a thread of camping dogs or "vintage dogs"...u know the shelter dogs are kinda "vintage"'because in a sense they are thrown away until the right owner finds them and restores them...Its kinda a cheesy parallel but nonetheless could get the word out for rescue dogs. We have always had rescue dogs and a friend has been trying to get us to take in this beautifjl brindle male, half Bull Mastif and half Doberman. He is a really cool looking dog and he is very smart and loyal. We had his sister for a year, but she wouldnt stop chewing. She caused about $1000 worth of damage despite us giving her a whole lot of attention, slept inside at nite (crate) and ran free on 58 acres during the day. A dog trainer actually has her now. She needed a special fit. Scared to take on another dog but would b nice to have with me when i camp alone with the kids. Hmmmmm.....A dobi/bull mastif mix is an intimidating combo!

I did a little dog hunting today but see I still believe that my dog will find me. All my dogs have found me. I didn't go looking for any of them. I've had dogs all my life too. OK on the Tent vs Camper thing, let's not forget "Van Camping". I do quite a bit of this when I don't need four wheel drive...

No Larry, like I tell my wife if you aren't guilty of anything you can just close your eyes and go to sleep. By the way you don't need excuses for posting pictures of your camping buddy, as long as the memories hold out your dog will always be with you.
