The first day it traveled about 30 miles to my parents house. Then the next morning it traveled the final 45 miles home. We live in the middle of Atlanta and didn't want to try to haul it during Friday rush hour. Good thing, because 2/3 of the street side wall came detached on the journey home. Thankfully we had added some bracing and duct tape to the back before we tried to move it. Otherwise it would have ended up scattered across the interstate. This was back in November.

With no garage or shelter to work under, we put up a temporary carport and I built a hoop house to store supplies and work in. The hoop house hasn't work out as well as I had hoped. I ended up enclosing the temporary carport in tarps and plastic and doing all of the work in there. Not sure how its going to go when its time to add the new panels to the walls, but I'll figure something out.

Looks like you have your work cut out but you CAN do it.. Takes time and reading. Will enjoy seeing it become a trailer again.

The front was in bad shape too. I found the first evidence of a prior attempt at repair. A piece of flat iron bar was added to the cross member that supports the dinette table.

Removing the curb side skin revealed the bulk of the previous renovation - there were steel mending plates and angle brackets everywhere. Everywhere! But, at least they're easier to remove than staples. I also figured out why the breaks in the skin didn't line up across this side of the trailer. The door had been reframed out of square.

Lots of Brackets!
Anytime metal is touching the aluminum, they can cause some pretty severe metal rot. Aluminum does not like to be married to steel...
Glad you took it apart and will be fixing it right.

All those brackets are a hoot! Guess the PO didn't know that aluminum and pot metal don't mix.

After repairing the curb side wall, it was time to strip it down to the frame. No more roof: No more walls: No more floor:

Time to get the frame cleaned up Leaf springs and axle removed. While the axle was off, moved the spring perches. Axle sitting over the spring left me with only about 4" of ground clearance. Now, with the axle under the springs, I have about 8". Frame all primed and painted. Finally starting to feel like I'm moving in the right direction.

This looks SO familiar!! We are just now finishing our frame off rebuild on a 1968 1500. It's taken us over 1.5 years. ( I have a thread with all the pics.) Good luck, I can't wait to see how it goes.
