I've been slowly poking away at my 62 Shasta making repairs myself as funds allow. I'm to the point where the rear cushion is all I need redone to make it campable.. The original cushions have water damage on one section and look ugly but the coils inside are all still shiney silver with the exception of like 3 coils that have some surface rust on them. I think it's totally capable of being redone. 2 upholstery shops hemmed & hawed saying I'd be better off with 2 new pieces of foam upholstered in vinyl.. That's really not what I want plus the price was rediculous. In the event I find someone to redo my original cushions what should I expect to pay or what did it cost to have yours redone? Even if you had them remade out of foam I'd like to hear what you paid. If you don't mind saying. Any input is appreciated.. Here is my cushion: does it look unredoable to you??

We took our gaucho to a local mattress factory and had a new gaucho built with 5 inch closed cell foam and reversible color fabric. It cost about $200.

It looks re-doable but spendy.. Do some research before making a decision.

My cushion was in similar shape, and I quickly took it to the city dump. Oops!

I would dump it, too and start over. Those cushions are fairly simple to make. I guess it depends on if you really want to keep the springs. Just my personal opinion but I wouldn't.

I got prices around $900 for 2 new pieces of foam covered in vinyl.. Seems kinda steep to me. Maybe it's just that I can't afford it. I've had front & rear seats in my 51 Ford redone in two tone vinyl for less than that.

wow that seems really high. Where are you located? I did my rear bed by myself but had both dinette seats done for under 200.00. A person that usually does boats did them for me.

Fortunately my dinette seats are good and a shampooing has made them nice. I was thinking it would cost $3-400 to redo my cushion.

The dinette seats for the 59 Shasta Im currently working on cost $500 for both but the guy did one heck of a beautiful job. The goucho is supposed to run around $600 all brand new but we don't know yet. This guy does super custom quality work for Lear jets and custom cars. He's not cheap but man, the quality is unbeatable.

Your looking at least $500 to $600.
Just the cost of the foam, for high quality, high density foam in a bed size piece will be over $300.

I found foam with memory foam topper already attached on craiglist, wss used with a protector attached and was like new. it was a king size pc. so plenty and I cut it to fit my needs. Cost me 50.00. you should try doing it yourself, not too hard at all to do. Everyone that has slept on the leftover pc. I use in my house loves it.

You can buy a 4" new topper at Walmart for about a hundred bucks.
It's just not the "same squish feel" as a 3" to 4" High Quality, High Density foam mattress from Foam-Online. Foam deteriorates when it's left in a hot trailer outside. On my next trailer I will use the 3", so it's lighter and easier to move around inside the trailer. I'm very happy with the foam product from this company.
You can do it on the cheap at Walmart for around a $100 , or spend about $300 for a quality, long lasting mattress, it's just another choice to make on your build.

Mine is high density 4 inch with a 3" topper on it. And no problems so far after 2 years of TX heat and humidity.

I think they are totally redo-able! But, before you take it to a professional, DO NOT remove the material or stuffing thinking you're helping them out! That material is literally holding "the guts" of your cushion together therefore protecting your springs and frame. Tamper with it before reupholstering and you may do more harm than good. We did the complete interior cushions for 975.00. Foam is outrageous in price. Check with an auto apolsterer. We priced the good foam and it was over 1K for just the foam. Good luck. If you are in colorado or near Ive got a guy that will tray you right... H
