Hey Ross, I sent you the vin of a 1964 Shasta Compact that we went to pick up but dodged a bullet and did not buy last week. So take V15465 out of the database at least belonging to me. Have another 64 Compact we are getting this weekend and will send you that vin. This one we're keeping !!! Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the update on the year of our Shasta Compact. After comparing ours with photos of other 1959 and and 1963's there are details that suggest 63 is the right year, but the differences are pretty small. Interesting that the trailer came with a California plate, black background with yellow numbers, no stickers. Appreciate your updating our information.

Hey Mike, the '64 Compact must have been in bad shape.

Just want to pass this along to everyone.
I really do appreciate the Shasta Vin Numbers and Models that everyone is so graciously giving me for the database. To date, I have collected close to 450 vin#'s. I truly believe that it benefits us all in the research and restoration processes of these little gems. However, I do not keep any names of the present or past owners, nor their present locations. I consider that a privacy issue, which I do not cross. Also, my database is not public or posted on any website.
Again, THANK YOU ALL and hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Weekend. Be sure to take a few minutes of silence to thank those who have laid their lives on the line so we can live is such a beautiful country!

Hey Ross, The earlier one I went to register, # V15465, was not in great shape but mainly walked away due to it being misrepresented in the ad by the seller and needing new skins on both sides, at least the bottom halves.
The new one we just got delivered on Friday is in great shape and very glad we passed on the other one. It is V12306, titled as a 1964 but wondering if it is actually older than a 1964 ? Thanks, Mike

Hey Mike. The Compact that you just picked up was produced within the first quarter of 1963. Being that it was titled as a 1964, may be due to it not being sold until sometime in 1964.

Thanks Ross ! Kind of like old collector cars, just because the DMV has them as one year has no basis of when they were actually produced !

Ross would it be possible to make a list available without names or addresses that would help us all recognize mfg dates and state. Even a model year and one number from that year, then we should be able to get with in a year or two of Mfg date. You have gathered a lot of info over time and if something happened to you or your list it would be a shame for it all to be lost completely. Just a thought.

Hey Bill,
I have thought about having someone have a back up copy, however, I won't make the list public and this is the reason: If the list is public, it will make it more difficult for me to collect Shasta vin's and models, because people won't send them to me if they can come close to the year on their own. As well as, the database will never grow.
And to touch on this again, for everyone, I do not keep addresses, locations, the previous or present owners names. Some people are paranoid about giving any personal info and I respect that. This is a privacy issue with me and it is a line that I won't cross.

Hey Tobey,
Sorry for not seeing your post. As for the vin# to first posted, can you post a picture or email me a few pictures of your Shasta? Also, where was your Shasta produced, Simi, California or Columbia, South Carolina. This will help!
I will be out of town for several days....going camping....so I won't have computer access. As soon as I return, I will double check your vin#.
Thanks. tearjerkers2004 at yahoo dot com (be sure to put Shasta Vin in the subject line)

Hey Tim, Sorry for the delay. Trying to get our mountain house on the real estate market, ASAP. As for you Shasta's vin# and it is an odd, but rare number....BUT here is what I have: Your Shasta was born in 1965 in Northridge, California (please double check this with the manufacturing plate by the entry door. If I'm wrong, please let me know). As far as the Model, based on your avatar picture and what was being produced at the Northridge plant, I believe that you might have a Model Twenty.
