shastatomLooks like your Airflyte was produced in the last quarter of 1958, in Van Nuys, California.

I have what I’ve been told is a 1962 Shasta airflyte I have tried to uncover the vin and have read a definite last 4digits of 1440. I can not read the letter at the beginning, but I would guess the next letter would be a 1. How can I see it better? It is pitted really bad!

floridacamper , Does your Airflyte have the manufacture tag next to the door, which tells where it was produced? The plants all had different notations in the VIN. There should be a letter in front of the numbers. If it is a '62, it is possible that it's a 4-digit number, preceded by said letter. Uncovering the VIN can be a delicate operation on the old rusty pitted frames. A stiff wire brush can do wonders. But, don't be too aggressive, the numbers can be easily obliterated.

As Ten mentioned, a wire brush works well. Sometimes, you can take a few pictures of it (once you have cleaned the area) at different angles, then enlarge the pictures on your computer.
The green manufactures' plate, next to the door, will state where it was produced. It will be from one of these two places, if it is a 1962 Shasta. The prefix letter states where it was produced: V: Goshen, Indiana C: Northridge, California (If from Northridge, the vin# will be a long one, the prefix will either be a C2S, C3S or C4S and then 5 digits.... this is based on the 4 digits that you listed, 1440
It could be a 1963 or 1964 Airflyte, if so, it may have been produced in Leola, Pennsylvania, prefix letter "P".
Also, PM sent.

I wonder if lightly drawing over the VIN with something like sidewalk chalk would help the digits stand out more (after a little wire brushing & maybe fine sandpaper has been used)? I haven't tried it, but that thought just came to mind. And maybe somebody has already brought that up in the past.

It's been several years ago, but I wire brushed the vin# area and then sprayed a light coat of gloss black paint. Once the area had dried, I lightly sanded the area back down to the bare metal. The vin# becomes more visible.

The actual vin# can be found on the tongue. Once I have that number, I can tell you what year, where it was produced. However, with out pictures, I can't tel you what model you have, just an educated guess, based on the other Shastas built around the same time yours was.

Based on the measurement you gave, I would guess that you have a 19' Deluxe. A picture or two would help to identify. Hope this helps.

Can I get help with the model of my Shasta? Vin number V-19802 Sorry, all I can give you is the year and plant where it was produced, which was in 1965 in Goshen, Indiana. If you can post a picture or describe your Shasta's interior layout and what the total length is, from tongue to bumper, I can tell you the model.

Hello, I am picking up a Shasta Airflyte this weekend and the PO didn't have a ton of information on it. The VIN is DS 17626 and PA 2386 is listed after it. Any information on the year would be appreciated. Thanks!
