My Shasta vin is V-10185. Can you help me with the year and model of my Shasta? Thank you A photo will help nail down the model but according to the database it's a 1962 built at Goshen, Indiana plant #2 You’ll find tutorials showing how to link photos to your post here:

I so hope I get this right. Uploading photos based on the wonderful instructions provided by Brian! I am hoping to find out the year of my trailer to aid in getting it titled. The VIN says P1964 stamped on the curbside tongue and just 1964 on the plate on the street side inner wall of tongue. My trailer is a Shasta 20 Deluxe. I think it's a '61 or '62 based on my research on this wonderful forum. It's more rounded on the ends, not the angled lines that started in, I think, '63-'64. Not so much info on the 20'ers I'm finding! Not so many made, I guess? Of course, the title inspection company are not allowed to just take my word for for the date of manufacture and thus the inquiry. If anyone is able to pinpoint the year, would it be possible to get the source so that I can pass that along to the title guy? My thanks in advance for any help. Love this forum! flic.kr/ps/3XMGVtflic.kr/p/2mK59q1flic.kr/p/2mK6gJPIf this doesn't work, I'm positive it will have been operator error! LOL! Hi and Welcome, The serial number shows it was manufactured in 1964. I know that's not what you were anticipating. Can you post a picture of the trailer? What little I found about model 20's are that they are rare. Does yours look like this? This is supposed to be a 1964 Shasta Model 20 according to the blog I found this in. When I was dating my Rod and Reel for DMV, I printed out some info with pictures of the same model off the internet to help DMV date the trailer since I had no paperwork on it. Cheers, Rod

Hi, Rod! Yes, after a careful perusal of this photo, that is exactly what I have -- although not as pretty -- yet! I was under the impression that the "VIN" number stamped on the tongue was unique to each trailer as the Shasta company must have produced many trailers in a given year. If they were all stamped with the year of manufacture, how would one tell them apart? Perhaps I'm confused as to what exactly the VIN should be. I have a letter P and four numbers, 1964. Should there be more to the VIN? From my searching, I'm not seeing more digits than that on either the plate on the inside tongue nor the stamp on the outside.
Do you happen to know what years the company produced this 20' Deluxe model? I'm working to get this titled and would love to get it "properly" titled rather that having it called a 2021 homemade or constructed trailer. Just vanity perhaps! LOL!

Sorry for the multiple posts! Still getting to know my way around in here. I couldn't get a pic of the door side as it's so close to the wall, but the layout of the door, windows, vents, furnace stack on the roof, suicide door opening, windows on the curb side are all the same as the lovely restored model up above.

Hi Kimberly,
My familiarity with Shasta's is limited, but I will share my assumptions. Maybe someone else with more experience with Shasta's will come along.
First of all, the VIN of your trailer, P1964 just unusually matches a year. I think this is just a coincidence. Yes, Shasta did have VIN's that had just 4 digit numbers with a letter in front.
If I am going to date your trailer, I know that Shasta Model 1500's built in 1963 and 1964 had nearly the same end caps (front and rear walls) as the model 20 that you have. Your model 20 at least to me, seems like a stretched version of a 1963-64 Shasta 1500. So, by my assumption, then your model 20 is most likely a 1963 or 1964 model because the front and rear walls seem similar. The body style becomes angular and squared off in 1965 and the 1962 models are more rounded like earlier canned hams. That puts the date back to just two years, 1963 and 1964.
I would print out the information in the website I linked in my original post and take it with you to DMV to prove it's a 1964 as well as the model and manufacturer. Better yet, call your DMV and ask if that would be sufficient to date it.
Rod

Thank you, Rod! Great info and I appreciate your experienced and vintage eye! Your observations seem sound and well considered and I'm in agreement about the VIN P1964 just coincidentally also being a year and ALSO coincidentally being a possible year of manufacture. That will make a really good story some day down the road! I'm cool with the year range that you've identified! I've already started to provide some of this site's information and others that I've been able to turn up to DMV and a private title company.
Still getting a fair amount of push back to just title it as a homemade camper as I'm not providing a specific year with any type of verification as to that one year. Do you think someone with access to the database might be able to weigh in? The private title guy says he could move forward with that -- an "unbiased third-party declaration based on some objective evidence." I even tried saying, let's just make it a '64 and be done with it, but it apparently can't come from me. I can be patient on this for sure. Don't need to tow it or move it until after the holidays. In the meantime, I'll just look out the window and dream about what it can be again! LOL!

Hi!! We recently purchased a sweet little Shasta camper. The previous owner thought it may be a 1968…. Best we can tell it’s a custom Astroflyte (has 4 bunk windows) with a toilet only. Classic floor plan. The door label stated it was made in Goshen, Indiana. It has the softer skin as well as a trunk off the back.
Found the VIN# V20367 on the trailer tongue ….
Can anyone help us identify the year from the VIN?
Thanks so much !!

Thank you so much !! I’ll try to work on Flicker account so we can share photos !! That's new in my world ;-) Hopefully somebody will chime in with a better knowledge of "Newer" Shasta models. The trunk is new to me for a Shasta. Love the cat.

Curious, vin links it to be built in '66, which the siding brakes, jalousie windows correspond. What I don't understand is the front upper clearance light which wasn't required until '68. Hmmm? Even though this one doesn't have the 3 clearance lights on the upper front above the front window, but that may have fell into a certain width requirement category? The front upper side marker may be due to length? It does appear to have a lighted grab handle next to the door though, that's cool. Metal appears to be in pretty good shape, I hope the street side is as good the curb side. Oh, before posting more pics, you may want to start your own thread showcasing your "new to you" trailer. Can't wait... Whitney
