Completed the onboard 12v wiring. Thanks to all for all the great posts on wiring a water pump and marker lights to onboard power. Ended up getting most of my supplies from a marine supply shop locally, not a perfect match for my application, but they were super helpful, and seeing now how unique these camper systems are but the similarities they share with boats. The picture looks like a mess, but things are actually organized now, ha.

I do like how this trailer turned out. GREAT picture of the trailer at sunset! You did a nice job on this trailer. I remember other posts on this trailer. The woodwork on that service window looks exceptional. Personally, I would worry about rain entering when towing if you ever got stuck towing in the rain. But, that's just me. Maybe add a gasket or weather stripping? But maybe the rules of aerodynamics will be your friend.
Cheers,
Rod

We’re looking at various options to try and get a solution without ruining the aesthetics. Going down the road it’s fine in the dry but we definitely need some epdm type weather stripping for the rain. I also need to hit the plexiglass windows with some silicone type sealer because they’ll collect water when it rains. I’ve been looking at some 12x20 canopies we can put up if it starts pouring at an event.
The sad part is that I’m probably going to have to sell my beloved 4Runner because it can’t pull the camper in 5th gear anymore. Going down the highway with a 20mph tailwind and I still lost speed at 60mph, forcing a downshift to 4th. That leaves us at ~3000rpm which kills gas mileage.
I am working on the curbside wall of my '57 Westerner, but I will post when the progress is more significant. More on that later.
An unplanned visit to CL found some round base vintage trailer leveling jacks for a decent price and in good original condition. It will look good with my Rod and Reel. They even have a rectangular platform on top of the leveling screw. It's a full set of four. Made a new vintage trailer buddy along the way.
I have had more time this summer than in a long while.
Just some progress tidbits of progress on my 57 Westerner.
On the curbside wall, I finished the sill boards replacement of old wood with new wood. That part of the restoration started on July 15, 2015 according to my restoration thread. Life’s responsibilities took precedence. .
Most recently, I replaced the sill below the doorway. New wood on the front radius as well as the lower rear radius have been replaced. All replaced wood is now attached using the pocket hole jig.
I also bought a new table saw and feed out roller to cut and new sill board under the doorway. I learned how to use clamps with spacers as well as to use clamps as straight guides for the jig saw.
Here is the wall with the original wood before I replaced the lower sill board below the doorway.
Below, you can see the board installed. I acknowledge that the board is way too long, I decided to leave it long and set 4 extra pocket holes in it because it offers strength when moving around the wall. The area of the 4 pocket holes will eventually be cut away to make way for the wheel well opening.
Another angle for the photo.
The old wooden 2 x 4 clamped across the wall was used to stiffen the wall. I did screw up, no pun intended. I set pocket holes in the top part of the new board instead of the lower part of the board above. When the wall is vertical, you can’t screw in the pocket hole screws from down below. Dohhh! I was able to redo the pocket holes in the board above.
Cheers,
Rod

When I started this most recent wall work, I thought of your enthusiastic comments you had left me previously in my restoration thread. I appreciate you.

Here where I am in my journey of complete rebuilding.
I want to install those two solar panels (behind the trailer) on this trailer 500 watt each and two 200A AGM batteries. Should be enough to run mini split, small refrigerator and microwave. Just deciding of how to make strong enough supports for the panels.
A pic from last night. People at events can’t believe we rebuilt this from a bare frame up. I have to show them the last three years of pictures. Other people who’ve done work on vintage trailers are more shocked than average people who’ve never dove in to one. When my GF tells people it was a three year project it kind of overloads their computer. A lot of people think it’s a one summer job.
I have been working on restoring a Hehr model 1626 jalousie window. I have dissassembled the window frame and removed 18 rivets to be replaced with new semi tubular rivets as original. No pop rivets on this one. I have cleaned it up and scrubbed with aluminum brightener. Below is a picture of the glass holder side assembly when detached. I had to replace two of the broken glass holders and that required new rivets. The other side only needed one glass holder replaced, but I replaced two just to match the side pictured below.
I will be replacing the worn and dried out top and bottom seals as well as the side pile weatherstripping. Tools and parts needed for this repair along with a How To are all listed at the bottom of this page.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod, What brand of aluminum brightener do you use? or all of them are really the same? Where you get yours from? I would like to restore all my windows. Thank you!
