Yesterday... Just used Hamlet as a flop house while we cleared slash piles and put up part of a fence to keep our dog safe. Once we sell our 1993 VW Eurovan (our fave car ever) and our 2003 Jetta, we’ll bring Hamlet home for repairs and maintenance. I can’t wait!

Big week working on the frame. Lots of grinding, priming and painting on axle, frame, leaf springs. Hardware and hubs. New brakes, just waiting on new wet shackles bolts and U-Bolts to come in the mail, then its reassembly time. Lookin Good, there Mom, Hey, your suspension work reminded me of something that I just noticed was a mistake on my part on my Westerner. I had cleaned up the spring packs some time ago on my Westerner and reassembled them with new through bolts as well as new U-bolts. What I didn't notice at the time was that the U-bolts were longer than the originals. So, they now extend past the radius of the wheel rim. Soooooo, if I had a blowout, the U bolts would strike the ground because thier effective distance from the axle is farther than the radius of the rim. That would cause the U-bolts to dig into the ground...needless to say, it would be a real drag, no pun intended. I will have to either replace the U bolts again with shorter ones or cut them shorter. It doesn't really matter for me currently because my Westerner won't be ready for the road for at least an estimated two more years. When I have to reconsider this, I will make sure it's no longer an issue. So, make sure this doesn't happen to you. Cheers, Rod

Cheers, Rod Yes, with all the resources online, you would think it would be easier to find some of these parts. But no, It took me 4 days of going through sites before I places my order. I'm still nervous about getting the right fit. I figured if its too long I would grind it, but I found 5" U bolts and thats what I had. Ordered 5 days ago and they still haven't left the facility. So now I started working on the next phase, replacing bad wood on the cabinets. Found some really holey wood. And dead termite larva. Just one more thing living in the trailer before me (termites, mold, mushrooms, cats, rats, spiders and a person to name a few).

Fridge in. Bed Frame in. I'm waiting on the table-to-wall hardware I ordered from Amazon. By the way, the stove works fine... Hooking up the gas light took care of the massive gas leak...Duh! On a side note, the seats I originally thought were awful are growing on me. My wife still hates them. This Camper is a week away from being finished. I have to put one cabinet door on, the table hardware on, Wings and jrail on, Swap a tire/rim, polish and mount screen door, repack one bearing (did the one side last week and it started rainging) and I think I'm finished. Then I will hook it up and drive around town to test out everything followed by a camping trip. But before that happens, Monday I begin my 10 days expedition to TX for a 1956 Shasta. I'll start a thread of my journey.

Today I: ~ drilled the hole for the faucet in the new counter top ~ tore apart the water faucet and put in new gaskets and tested it -- works great ~ got the cabinet doors mostly put together

Hi all, Man I haven't been on this site for a WHILE. I bought 4.77 acres with a 36 x 48 pole barn so my son and I could halve a shop. Been restoring the pole barn. Believe me, campers are easier! But I got the electric ready to hooked up to the grid on it. Also have it cleaned out and ready to do new wainscoting all around soon. I may actually get to work on a camper soon. Now if the rain will let up so the excavator guy can restore drainage and rock the driveway.

Hello Friends, My '57 Westerner was missing a stove when I bought it. You can find them with the yellow and white Princess stove as pictured below. A few years ago, I bought a nice brown 60’s stove off someone that came out of a early 60’s Shasta. I had planned to use that one in place of the sought after yellow and white Princess Stove. I would have had to modify the platform for the newer stove in the kitchen cabinet. I was scanning ebay innocently last night and found someone selling a yellow and white Princess Stove that had come out of an Airstream. Rather nice shape I might add. I decided on impulse to buy it. I will pick it up this weekend. In a stroke of luck, I had already planned to head north this weekend and the return trip can easily take me through Bakersfield where the stove is. Saves me gas to get out there and back, some 100 miles. I pick it up this weekend.
The brown one I bought years ago will go into a Shasta I acquired a few weeks ago. Brown Princess Stove by Scott W, on Flickr Cheers, Rod

Thanks NC! BTW, like Vikx and your wife, I like your cushions, too. That subtle striping is really kind of cool and the color picks up the interior wood nicely. I say, keep them. Just my humble opinion. Have a safe journey on your retrieval. Definitely, something to look forward to. Cheers, Rod

Teachndad Amazing Stove, gotta say I'm a little jealous, seems like there's so much good vintage stuff in CA. Planning day today. Did some measuring, looks like I'm going to have to make some unplanned changes to fit the new fridge into its spot. Waiting for the barn insulation job to be finished, then the camper's going in. nccamper do you buy your skin from Atomic? You seem to be very close. Found this gas light on facebook!
