Bought some Diamond Bright truck box polish to clean and polish aluminum emblems. However, I noticed on my Shasta emblem there are several divots or "picks" in the aluminum. Any idea on how to fix it? Thanks!

FYI it's pot metal with chrome plating not polished aluminum.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by having it replanted? Would this be done at a metal shop?

You're going to need to have it re-chrome plated. It will need to be done at a chrome plating shop, and will probably cost between $100-150.00.

Here is another company too, that I have bookmarked, however do not have direct experience with them. www.brownsplating.com/There was also a post on the old board, which I hesitate to reference any more, about new replacement emblems that were cast of aluminum. I'll see if I can find that info too. There have been others that have sanded out the plating and painted over the emblems, not trying to regain the mirror-chrome finish. You can finish it off with spray-paint, as long as you are happy with the finished project and how it fits your scheme.

If you want to paint them try using Dupli-Color silver wheel paint for the base coat then the wheel clear coat to get a fairly nice finish. at low cost. The two spray cans run around $15.00 for both at O Reileys.

You can also drop your parts off at any custom Harley motorcycle shop close by you (Pick one that carries Chrome Specialties products) or your local Harley Davidson shop. (Ever seen any Harleys with no chrome? LOL) Any way, they should be able to send out your part and have it chromed. Also a lot of the motorcycle magazines have ads in the back of places that you can send a part to be chromed. Not cheap sense most of the parts get shipped to Canada to be chromed thanks to our EPA.

The good thing about paint is you can try it and if you don't like it you can always strip it off. Also if you have it plated get quotes for it being pot metal. I knew a fellow who had a 58 corvette and he wanted the dash insert chromed (it was pot metal) so they polished it to perfection then hung it on the hooks to dip it in the tank for plating pushed the button to dip it in and watched it dissolve before they could get it out. Did you ever see a grown man cry.

I have a Shasta emblem for sale. I've been holding on to it until I could restore my shasta. But never got the change. One day I'll get my very own Shasta again. But I rather it go to a Shasta lover. I was going to sell for $100 on Ebay but will sell it to a shasta lover for $50 it will need to be replated and I would love to see the finish product. It's a original off my 68 shasta loflyte. If anyone is interested. You would need to paid for shipping depending on where you are. Put it in the parts for sale thread. This thread is almost 7 years old.
