Hi Marguerite, I bought a couple of the emblems shone here and I'm pretty satisfied with them . There not quite as heavy as my original, but they do look really nice and complement my new paint job ! My original was to heavily pitted to polish up so I hung it in my garage along with other car emblems I have collected over the years....Remember has to be a Shasta !

something I have thought about is buying one of his aluminum emblems, polishing it to a chrome like shine, then coating it with sharkhide, it will protect it for years.

Shark Hide is a coating to use after polishing aluminum. It retains the polish for years. Slows up the oxidation process. Available online....Vintage Trailer Supply may have it also.

Has anyone had their original emblem rechromed? We have friends who live near a chrome-plating business, they're supposed to get a quote for us on re-plating our emblem and a couple other parts (grab bar, license plate light).

We had our emblem and baby moons rechromed by a local business (Baton Rouge) and the items look tremendous! In fact, I will be droping off the Bargman door latch/handle and original grab rail to be done at the same shop next week. Anyone can grind off old finish and drop a piece in a plating tank, but the prep work is what makes a quality finish. Our cost was about $200 for two RUSTY baby moons and the Shasta emblem.

Our quote was astronomical! $70 for the license plate light, $100 for the grab bar - and $100-$300 for the Shasta emblem! If anyone knows a REASONABLE chrome plater and wants to pass that info alone, that would be great. These people are supposed to be really good, but we don't have that kind of money in the budged just now. (Yes, "get what you pay for" but if you can't afford it at all, you end up with pitted, rusty chrome for life!)

I have used Speed and Sport chrome plating in Houston for many years and their prices are fair, their turnaround time is excellent and theor customer service is top notch. www.speedsportchrome.com/The shop we used to do our Shasta emblem and hubcaps is called The Chrome Man in Baton Rouge, LA www.thechromeman.com/ Here is the work they did for us...
