More frame envy LOL... Looking great. Hi Larry, we've just watched several of your roofing videos and had a couple of questions. In your video Trailer Tidbits the Westener part 4c you mentioned that the radius was tight. How tight is the average radius? You also mentioned that you had some extra padding in the roof. What is the purpose of that padding? Is it extra insulation or a water barrier? Today we we drew up a template for our roof line. The roof will be sloped. We have a 16 inch radius in the front and a 12 inche radius in the back. The interior peak will be 75 inches . The highest peak is 46 inches from the front. We are not adding a roof vent. Does this sound like a good plan? my original camper was a 1968 shasta 1500. However, I am wanting it to look more like an Airflyte. Thank you for all of your help and videos!

I like the way you mortised the side to hold the roof framing. Is that standard or did you do to add strength.

We are 2 roof studs away from a complete roof line.

Started to install the outer lauan panels. In order to get it to curve and fit the radius we attached water jugs allowing the weight and gravity to slowly bend the curve.

I would lay a 1x across the edge under the ropes so the weight pulled down evenly.

Is the outer lauan for added strength?

Great idea to bend the plywood and very nice framing. I don't think you need plywood on top of the rafters; they are usually just under the metal. From the way I'm looking at the trailer, you'll need ply on the inside rather than on top? For example: To do the ceiling from the inside, you'll need support boards at the edges. The lighter colored boards are glued and tacked in place... Here's a better view: I think the plywood on top will add unnecessary weight to your trailer, plus it will be vulnerable to condensation. I would install the ceiling panels, insulate and lay a vapor barrier on top, then the roof metal. Also, don't forget to shim the vent.

We were thinking that the 3 sheets of lauan wouldn't add that much weight and would overall add in the stability of the roof? We will be adding the vapor barrier after all of the siding/panels are in place. Also, I decided that I did not want a roof vent. I figured it was less chance for leaks to start. Thank you so much for your feedback, ideas, tips and suggestions. It is all so helpful.
