Hi all. My name is Jody. We just started the major overhaul on 'Miss Daisy'. I bought her pretty much sight unseen off eBay/Craig's list...mistake number 1. I had no idea what to look for nor what I was getting in to. I paid a crazy asking price of $2,900. Which was mistake number 2. I've had her now for a little over two years. This past summer she went on a 6,300 mile month long cross country trip. It became apparent during that time that Daisy had some structure issues. We started working on her Thanksgiving day and when we finished today, the only thing left was her metal frame!! Everything inside was rotten and several studs were disconnected providing no support. I will work on how to load pictures. I know we will need lots of help and support along this crazy rebuild so all feedback is most welcome!! I think this link to my Facebook picture.

You need to put a space between the k & h (link https) It looks like you have a good start and a nice place to work on her. Welcome to the site.

I'm glad the link worked but how do I post pictures directly to this thread? We had no choice to take her down that far. The rot was just unbelievable. In all honesty, I'm scared as hell!

I am getting to the same issue with mine. I think it is a 1950's McGinness Silver Duke. I may have gotten in a little over my head, this site sure looks like it will help. Good luck

Dang, I know you had to enjoy the bonfire... but wish I could have told you to save EVERYTHING till you'de made replacements. Funny how time passing can make one forget how 'this fit together with that'. Now I have my fingers crossed that you took lots and lots of pictures, cause the devil's in the details. At least, there's a whole pack of folks here who faced the same path and documented their own 'scared as hell' and ended up with real beauties. No doubt they'll be ready to step up and offer advice when you need em.
By the way, the smiles on y'alls faces pretty much says you're up to the task.
Keep having fun, and damn the torpedos.....

Kirkkadie, Thank you for the vote of confidence! We took lots of measurements and pictures so I really hope we are going to be ok. We saved some things for templates. I'm sure those smiles on our faces may change as that was just our first weekend working on it! Lol My big concern is finding skin and should I have it professionally installed and what the heck is a Pittsburg seam? Lol

A Pittsburgh lock or seam is the seam that runs along the side of trailers where two panels are locked together horizontally, by the way the edges are folded and interlock. Best of luck on your project!

And a true Canvas you have good fellow... If you ever wanted to flip the axle now would be a good time to do it. Building one from the ground up provides a lot of opportunity, I'd would imagine for me anyway. All of your wiring could be mapped by oneself for maintenance and ease of access. Inspection panels can be put into place, new waterway paths established, exterior outlets.. All kinds of stuff. It's a good time to clean up that frame and paint her too.

We are working on the frame this weekend. We have a couple of grinding wheels attached with wire brushes to work on the rust. Afterwards, we will paint the frame. When I first bought her, she sat so low to the ground and I basically tore off her back bumper getting in and out of driveways. I had bigger wheels (15 inch) put on and that seemed to have solved the problem. Will flipping the axel lower her back down or raise her up more?

I don't recommend flipping an axle. Makes the trailer dangerous. If you want more height there are a couple of other things you can do that are safe.
