Thought I would drop a few pics of my project. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel ! Here's my list of completions to date. I do think I am getting to old for this though. Re polished Pex done throughout New water tank New gray water tank Natures head toilet Excel America on demand water heater, needs no electrical to start. Used in Europe. Fixtures Flooring 1956 Dixie stove located and rebuilt 12v Solar fridge/freezer upright 150 wt portable solar panels LED lighting Moon caps for the rims, but I will wait till spring to install Re sanded and stained all the interior cabinet trim. Looks very nice. Re plated all original hinges and handles I have kept all the interior and exterior as untouched as possible. I wanted to update everything behind the cabinets to current standards. I believe I have gotten close for my first attempt. Love the help from this web site.

Has anyone used Gigi's Hollydale Appliances lately? I got pricing from them for a 1956 Dixie and it is very reasonable. I need some references of likes or dislikes. Since the original owner has passed away I do not know if the service is the same. I believe that her son has taken over. Thanks for you input.

It took me a bit of thinking but the answer was simple. Take another piano hinge, put it on the side I want to open. take out the long pin keeping it together. And mounting it. I found a long thin metal kabob shaft that had a round ring on the top and put it down through the center of the piano hinge to lock them back together. The ring makes it easy to pull it up and out to open, and no one knows that it locks the door ! Just don't tell my wife she is missing a kabob fork from the BBQ ! I love it !

I have seen a hinge that is similar to a door hinge, that allows you to drop a dowel or metal pin through the top openings. When you close the door the pin drops down through the hinge openings and secures the hinge as one unit. I cannot find the hinge on goggle or find the name for the hinge. I have gone to Grainger Supply with no luck. I may call a specialty hinge company to find it. thanks for the ideas.

Here are the pics open and closed. It needs the right hand secured. I have put all the exterior parts that were screwed into the trailer on a piece of aluminum matching the original pattern. I would like it to look as clean as possible. I may have to build my own hinge to secure the opening area and the side of the trailer. Thanks for any help Dennis R.

I have created a swinging door holding all the original chimney from my hot water tank. This was done after I removed the water heater tank and replaced it with a small European on demand water heater. I cannot find any type of lock pin hinge or any item that will allow me to keep the original exterior look and swing open the door from the trailer exterior wall. I need to find a way to have the door close up tight against the trailer and not come lose while traveling. Any ideas where I can find such an item. Trailer stores have no answers.

I guess I should clarify some things.
First there are dc items installed from the factory. Oven fan and lights as well as small round lights like tail lights in areas above the bed, living area, bathroom. These are all associated with the blue and white wires run behind the walls and into the trunk battery area. I did see a wire attached to the frame as well.
I have removed all wiring and items not associated with the factory install.
Thanks. Dennis

Still busy out flying, but I think I am narrowing it down. The PO had wired from the battery trunk to the bathroom, blue and white wires to a dc fuse panel from the battery. Then he ran wires through out the trailer to a few dc items. I have pulled all the non period items and associated wiring out of the trailer. It looks like all dc associated items have blue and white wiring only.
This was for all the small dc lights and the fan and lights above the oven and also the 12v water pump. The water pump was connected to a switch for as needed I guess.
When I plug in the shore power I get power to all my outlets, and larger lights distributed through out the trailer. Non of the dc associated stuff comes on.
I also do not know if the dc stuff is working because I have do not a battery yet. I am ordering a lithium battery for dc power.
Can you tell me if is common for the power to be separated as such, dc and 110v. And if the old style breaker panel would recharge a battery off of shore power?
I have ordered a Progressive Dynamics lithium breaker panel that will recharge the battery from shore power. I am also planning on getting portable solar panels to recharge the battery as well.
I have pulled all the wiring back into the trunk area and plan on testing the dc system on the new battery when it arrives.
Sorry about so many questions. I will try and limit them in the future.

I am replacing all of my interior and exterior plumbing. The size I have available to fit in my existing space is a 31 gallon fresh water tank, and the waste tank will hold 18 gallons for the available space under the trailer. I will have no septic tank, I installed a Natures Head composting toilet. I need to know if 31 gallons is over kill for fresh water from your past experiences on 4 - 5 day outings ? Thanks so much for your input.

Is there any value in my old stove, a Kitchen Aid 4 burner oven\stove, and the old Norcold fridge? I have purchased a 12v dc upright fridge\freezer from Eco Solar that runs directly off of the battery and solar panels. And am having my 50's Dixie stove restored. I do not know if I should post them on a vintage trailer site or send them to the metal shop. Both work but I am restoring my trailer with more modern and efficient units. These are from my 63 Boles Aero. Thanks )

Why so much from independence porcelain? Stove tops and fronts are $99 each. Are you having something else done? Here are my cost's from each. I am going to go with Gigi's for pricing and ease of getting through to when I have a question. I have sent them an email about the cost of doing the whole stove. I hope this has helped. Gigi appliances: California Sides are $70.00 each; Back splash is $55.00; Top is $50.00; Oven Door is $55.00; Broiler Door is $45.00; Drip Pan (4 burners) is $35.00; Double Grates (2) are $35.00 each; Burner Manifolds (4) are $25.00 each. IPE: Mid West Side panels 105.50 each Oven Door $75.50 Storage Door $64.50 Control Knob Panel $47.50 Back splash $62.50 Cook Top $86.50 Black drip pan $75.50 Double grates $52.50 each Kick plate 42.50 Oven rack $57.50 Long burners $37.50 each Short burners $32.50 each Jeff W. I have purchased the Progressive Dynamics 4045 distribution panel. I plan on using solar to replenish my battery.
Can I hook up my solar panel, which does have a controller included, directly to my PD panel for handling my recharging through it's recharging controller?
Or do I just hookup directly to the batteries.
Zamping said I can hook their panel to the PD panel, and the PD controller would handle the power provided to recharge the batteries and all my dc power needs inside the trailer. Zamping provides a side wall mount that has the 6 gauge wiring for the hookup, battery intended, but in my case power to the PD 4045 panel.
I need to contact PD about where the positive and negative wires go on their panel from the side amount.
Has anyone got input about this or experienced this issue?
Thanks!

I have contacted Gigi's Appliances in California. They have given me a great quote for all the exterior panels of my 50's Dixie stove. They take the panel down to the metal and them apply and cook the porcelain. I have a quote from IPE as well and there cost was $300+ more than Gigi's. I hope this helps. She has web site as well as a phone number. There valve rebuilds are very reasonable as well.

Sam and I have decided that the interior side and top panel of the oven are in need of being redone. There are just too many places where the enamel has come off and those areas are starting to rust. We've put so much into the stove already we want to have it finished completely. I'm trying to decide if we should have the parts powder coated or send them somewhere to have the enamel replaced. I'm worried about the shipping costs to send them to somewhere that does enameling. But also don't know if the place that did our powder coating would have the special powder needed for high heat and if they do is it available in the look the oven is. It's going to cost at least twice as much for enamel as it would to powder coat and I have no idea how much the shipping will be be. My question is to those who have sent this kind of stuff out what kind of shipping did you use, how much did it cost and did you pack it or have one of those shipping places pack it. I guess I'd also like to know if this was your stove and you'd put as much into it as we have so far which way would you go, powder coating or enamel? Also, would you send it to a place that just does the enamel or include the manifolds and grates and send it to a antique appliance restoration place and have everything fixed by a professional?

Since I am out flying the fires here in the west, I will have to check out what runs and doesn't run on shore power. I got ahead of myself on the questions. I need to plug in the shore power, and see what comes on. I plan on installing a solar power system with lithium batteries, but have no battery to see what works and what does not. I also need to look around and find out where the converter is.
Do you recommend me installing a new converter and circuit panel to provide better performance from the electrical power. I feel that the converter since it is a 63 era may be in need if an upgrade.
