I have created a swinging door holding all the original chimney from my hot water tank. This was done after I removed the water heater tank and replaced it with a small European on demand water heater. I cannot find any type of lock pin hinge or any item that will allow me to keep the original exterior look and swing open the door from the trailer exterior wall. I need to find a way to have the door close up tight against the trailer and not come lose while traveling. Any ideas where I can find such an item. Trailer stores have no answers.

Here are the pics open and closed. It needs the right hand secured. I have put all the exterior parts that were screwed into the trailer on a piece of aluminum matching the original pattern. I would like it to look as clean as possible. I may have to build my own hinge to secure the opening area and the side of the trailer. Thanks for any help Dennis R.

Do you have access to the inside? A latch might work if you could get to it. Honestly, the water heater exhaust is not the sleekest design. If it's not necessary, I would go without. If you want to go with an original look, then you will want to keep it. A locking device on the door would work as well. They are simple; a latch hooks to the interior frame and a key operates it.

i agree. i think a simple latch from the inside is the way to go. latch from inside makes it more secure and doesn't make it any more bulkier than it already is.

I have here a thing called a "Cam Lock Kit" from Ilco Unican. Made in Canada. Fits doors up to 3/32nds inch thick. Part number, 3120-14-51 It comes with two keys. it also has two different levers that goes to the inside, one lever is straight and the other is off set.

I have seen a hinge that is similar to a door hinge, that allows you to drop a dowel or metal pin through the top openings. When you close the door the pin drops down through the hinge openings and secures the hinge as one unit. I cannot find the hinge on goggle or find the name for the hinge. I have gone to Grainger Supply with no luck. I may call a specialty hinge company to find it. thanks for the ideas.

It took me a bit of thinking but the answer was simple. Take another piano hinge, put it on the side I want to open. take out the long pin keeping it together. And mounting it. I found a long thin metal kabob shaft that had a round ring on the top and put it down through the center of the piano hinge to lock them back together. The ring makes it easy to pull it up and out to open, and no one knows that it locks the door ! Just don't tell my wife she is missing a kabob fork from the BBQ ! I love it !
