The layout is an exact copy of my 59. I love the way the interior panel finish came out. Someone knew what they were doing there. I still haven't figured out how to do that finish. The finish looks like something other than Shellac. It's so pale. Any idea what it could be? To me it looks like some sort of chalk paint put over it like shabby chic furniture. Sanded down almost all the way to where the grain is showing through. Looks great though very uniform finish.

So, was curious if they fixed the framing around the vent when they replaced it and if they checked anywhere else for bad wood. I asked nicely as anyone who was considering spending that kind of money might, and this was their response
"Absolutely not. This is NOT a "frame up" reconstruct of an old trailer rebuilding it into a new product. It's an ORIGINAL trailer. In the 'questions' we have posted the answer to the same question about the vent. The trailer doesn't currently leak. We opted not to change out wood in two places where we felt the water stains were minor for our purposes. It's just our preference of how we like it to look but the new owner can replace it if they want. The wood and frame everywhere else is in good working condition. ORIGINAL. Not a rebuild. Hope that's clear!"
Um, o.k, but snippy there. And it appears there is more than just the vent that shows signs of water infiltration. Me??? I'd want to make sure it was safe to tow far before I brag about how we are so good at doing trailers and how great this one is, just ignore the water damage please. I really like this trailers looks, but no way would I come close to the money this will go for.

I've spent money and time trying to figure that out for the last 3 years. I finally gave up and just take it all down to the wood and start over.

I've noticed on Flyte Camp Flippin RV's that they always say they put on "varnish". I've been trying to sort out The difference between the two...

I'll watch it to see how high and cause I do like it also….. 58 bids with a little under 3 days to go. The price will go way up on this one.

Hey Larry, I'm just wondering if mixing a stain in with a creamy white paint then diluting it with water, or even wiping it off as soon as it's applied, then clear varnish might get close to that look. I know you've been at it longer and probably tried all sorts of stuff, but another comment here about distressing furniture got me thinking about a finish I saw on a home improvement show that was very close to this and that's what they did. Wish I could remember the stain color. I just curious cause I'd like to be able to replicate it if I ever go for another trailer, I'm kinda leaning towards this type of finish and style trailer. Gotta finish Lil Bit (which is actually Libby, Sam thinks I'm weird but I started calling her L.B. for short and it evolved into Libby) and make Sam agree it's fun and he wants to do it again. I want Libby for myself and a bigger one for when we go together........does this mean I'm an addict? ?

LOL I promise never to buy another ash trailer again. Here's how mine came out.

"Absolutely not. This is NOT a "frame up" reconstruct of an old trailer rebuilding it into a new product. It's an ORIGINAL trailer. This was the same line I got on my Mobile Scout… "not a frame up".. it's "all original". It looked so good, I didn't know any better and my naiveté said go for it. If you're not "in the know" about 50+ year old wood framed trailers, "original" and pertty, sounds better than thoroughly rebuilt. If I was a betting man, I'd still say this is a pretty good specimen… but an in-person inspection would tip the scales. Too bad that's not part of the auction agreement as far as I can see. This is a good case study for this forum to discuss. Perhaps the winner of this auction will one day be a "new member", with such topics posted as, "how can I repair a rotted floor without taking apart the trailer?"… or another classic, "my trailer has a toilet, but no black tank!" Well now I'm really be a cynic!

Mine was trashed, but I was dumb enough to be convinced only the vent panel needed to be replaced...

It's pretty, but not ash like you said, I still think the paint/stain combo may be AN answer, I'm sure someone somewhere knows how to do it but their hoarding the info from us.

I'll bet the buyer won't know this is a park model with a tiny "house" type toilet. It needs water in the tank and a straight on connection to a sewer to work. Otherwise, it will fill the rolling tank with one flush...
The vent makes me think this is not as nice as they think it is. They sure are proud of that pink paint.

That's why I took the one out of mine and put the Thetford into it.

I didn't know that, I guess one thing I'll have to learn before I ever think of buying a bigger trailer is how to tell if it's a park model or not. I'd be scratching my head going why won't my toilet work??? Good to start small i think.
