Everyone is right about DMV.
My Forester also has a weight on the title that has nothing to do with reality. So somebody after it rolled off the assembly line "filled in" the facts a little for DMV. My Shasta is on the Title as a Shast. Maybe they had to pay extra for an "A"?

My 65 Shasta has double axle checked but it did have a new VIN issued. I'm trying to get that one corrected. It came from NH and they as much as admitted that they don't really care what the trailer is as long as you come in and register it. There was NOTHING in the system on my 62 except "1962 Shasta." They let me fill in the blanks. I added Compact to the model even though the DMV person raised an eyebrow like I was crazy.

I'm going out on a limb with my limited knowledge of Shastas. Can't wait for Ross to get a hold of the VIN and let us know what he thinks. But I'm going to venture to say that this is an earlier model than a 57. I'm going to guess it around a 53 or 54 latest. I'm judging by the stove and ice box and the front windows. Again this is not because of my very limited knowledge of Shastas but of the appliances and windows. The mattress could have been bought later than the trailer so I would not use that as much of a judgement call being that it is not permanently attached to the trailer. Might want to look on the back side of the mirror for a date. Also look underneath the sink on the bottom... Sometimes there is a date there.

Few more questions.
Is the tail light setup stock?
I have a closet in there but no mirror and my cabinet setup and location of the butane lantern is different than I have seen. Do you think it was specially made? Or made different than standard? Hence the special on the side under the shasta logo.
And did this model/ year normally have hub caps?
Thanks

Those hinges on the ice box and that big cabinet door under the sink have the look of 54 or earlier also.

Interesting.. What would be the value of my trailer in its current condition? I really want to fix it up but would it lose its value. It's literally a time capsule that has has a little bit of use. Any thoughts??,,

Interesting.. What would be the value of my trailer in its current condition? I really want to fix it up but would it lose its value. It's literally a time capsule that has has a little bit of use. Any thoughts??,, I would at the very least re-seal everything. Top vent, windows, baggage doors and all the brows... anything that goes through the shell and J Rail. Then a paint job wouldn't hurt the value but I've seen some that keep the old paint and they look great all cleaned up and maybe a coat of wax?. Just make sure the waxing isn't going to take the paint off. You can clean up the interior paneling with a fresh coat of clear shellac or two. No sanding needed. Polish the floor to keep it nice. Like at least 3 coats. Shine up all the hardware like those hinges. Use nothing but #0000 steel wool. Same with the aluminum trim on the table and counter top and the faucets and hand pump if you have one. If it looks good after all that then keep it that way. As long as the shell is not sagging anywhere. If it is you may need some new skirt board framing which isn't all that hard to do. New bearings or regreased. New tires and shiney hub caps. Stuff like that. Make everything work. New curtains. New bedding. You don't want to sleep on that old mattress. And it probably doesn't smell very good either. Value? That's always a good question and the only way to find out is to put it up for sale. I would keep it. I really wish I hadn't sold my 54 Westerner. That was way more rare than I thought.

Find some advice on what to use on the floor. That is an original and is probably Congoleum or Marmoleum. And make sure to get underneath and look up inside the walls down there. See if you see any rot. If the staples on the bottom are holding good you may be good to go. But keep an eye on possible rot. This trailer intrigues me.

I would check out Mobiltec's Shasta video series. He probably didn't mention it because it would be a shameless plug. But they're free and really informative. cannedhamtrailers.com/57shasta.htmYou'll see how your camper is constructed and pick up lots of great tips. Don't miss the one where he's wearing his pirate eyepatch! (inside joke) As for how much your camper is worth, it depends on where you are and how it shows. East coast, top dollar. A small town in the Midwest 300 miles from nowhere... not so much. The west coast? I'm told there are vintage campers in every driveway out there ;-) Do some of the things suggested above and it might double in value. I wouldn't sell unless you need the money. You have a great camper.
