Vintage Trailer Supply was carrying a special model of the Fan-Tastic Vent, with a low profile gray lid, etc. They've been out of stock on it for a while. Does anyone know if it's been discontinued? Thanks.

I hope not, it was made specifically for them. One thing about VTS is they have awesome customer service, best to call them and ask!

……...best to call them and ask! Of course. First thing tomorrow. If it's something they make by special arrangement for VTS, perhaps they're just waiting for their next production lot to come through. I'll post what I find out.

They're still available. VTS tends to be "out of stock" a lot in the summer time.

I was told that the vendor had incorrectly assembled the last batch, so they had to be sent back… hence the 'out of stock' status.

They're still available. VTS tends to be "out of stock" a lot in the summer time. I spoke personally with Steve, the owner of VTS about "Out of Stock", and "Shipping" concerns. He's very concerned with the problem and is very "hands on" with his company. IMO, this is a very common problem for any company that is experiencing a period of very high growth. It's hard to get a handle on how much inventory to stock, compared to the time it takes to get replenishment from your vendors. In most cases it is also my experience, that vendors always make optimistic promises for the time frame it takes them to ship which makes it even more difficult for small companies like VTS to keep the shelves full during times of volume growth.
As an "Old Sales Guy", I have sit in a lot of meetings, heard a lot of promises, and all of the stories from the marketing guys. I was very impressed with Steve, and his vision for VTS as it grows in the future. It's great that we have a small company like VTS willing to take the time to seek out, or invest in tooling to reproduce the special products needed to restore our trailers. Not many companies even understand the needs of our small hobby, much less want to invest in it.

I was told that the vendor had incorrectly assembled the last batch, so they had to be sent back… hence the 'out of stock' status. See above: I spoke to them today. The ones they got most recently were mis-manufactured and had to be sent back. They're expecting the new supply any day now. In fact this afternoon, they're no longer marked 'out of stock' when you put them in your shopping cart. But… everything you're saying, John is true. A fast growth rate in any business can produce some embarrassing growing pains . But they are generally swell to work with and are quite helpful to our little corner of the world.

Thanks for the input guys. I certainly didn't mean my comment to be rude, just the way things are. So many vintage trailers needing parts in the summer...

Vintage Trailer Supply was carrying a special model of the Fan-Tastic Vent, with a low profile gray lid, etc. They've been out of stock on it for a while. Does anyone know if it's been discontinued? Thanks. I had the same question! I actually ended up ordering the one with the translucent lid instead because I didn't want to wait until they had the gray lid in stock again. I'm so happy I did, it looks cool to have a little light coming in! Keep in mind, it sticks up a lot higher than the original vent did, at least the original in my Compact. I wanted it to stick up a little higher to help prevent leaking, my mine sticks up 7/8" inches higher! That's almost a whole inch. I am about to put the new skin on tomorrow, but first I have to add to the frame I built around it to ensure a snug fit. I'm hoping it doesn't look weird because it sticks up much higher than my sides. Fingers crossed... This is still a work in progress, but as you can see in the pic below, this is the insert that goes inside the trailer through the opening and then the vent slides into this piece. At first, I thought maybe I built my frame too high and was preventing the vent from sliding all the way down, but I didn't. It actually sticks up almost as high as you see in this pic. I will have to add more wood around it before installing the skin and later the Fantastic Vent.

Jannica, I did the same thing, then saw where they had the gray lids in stock. That must have been the batch they sent back. I ordered mine back in Nov. and didn't want to wait. I like the look, too.

Go back, and re-read your directions! The piece that you have sticking up through the vent hole is the interior garnish ring. It has to be cut "after" the fan vent is installed. They send it extra tall due the all the various ceiling thickness on different make trailers.
Power and ground wires need to run to the left side;front corner.

Jannica, also, you can cut a piece of 1/8" plywood to go over your fan frame to shim it. It'll help the water drain away, a trick suggested by Vikx.

I still can't believe I skipped over reading the directions until John reminded me. This project is turning me into a guy.

I shim my Fans under the roof metal and on top of the wood framing. Anywhere from 3//16 to 3/4. Learned a little lesson on the Cardinal: the higher the shim, the harder it is to fit NEW skin... The old roof skin forgives a lot.
These trailers will teach you if you let them. Always a bit of trial and error, mistakes, re-doing and first perfect tries. LOL.
