Last week I came across a really cool thread on here that discussed creating retro patterns with VCT tile. Of course, now I can't find it. Can anyone help direct me to it?
Also - today a trailer repair person (not vintage trailers) told me that the only floor to put in a trailer was one piece sheet linoleum. He said the tile will fail very quickly because of expansion/contraction and the flexing while driving down the road. I have read the threads where this is discussed, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on this issue. Is there anyone out there who has actually had the VCT installed for any length of time that can share their experience with the longevity of VCT tile installations?
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas, technical know-how and humor to be found on this forum!

Yes!! Thank you! My VCT tiles arrived and I'm getting ready to install them. I'm definitely going to use one of these patterns, after cutting the tiles to a smaller size. Can't decide between 6" and 9". I'll post pics when I'm done

If you can do one sheet linoleum it will look really nice. But unless you are frame off (which it looks like you might be from your profile pic) It's just hard to manuever a piece in the tight spaces in our trailers. The tiles are easy, and as with most things...it's all in the prep. Make sure you have a completely flat surface because tile or sheet linoleum will telegraph. Make sure you let the glue set up completely before you stick the tiles down. And them make sure to roll them down so they make contact. I have had zero problem with them popping up and I doubt you will either if you install them correctly. The glue is really strong.

I put a floor in my basement about 7 yrs ago and I used a heavy marble rolling pen to roll the seams.

The problem people have with tiles coming up is that they don't read the instructions on the can of glue... The proper way to use the glue is not the way most people think of. You put it on and let it dry. Then after it dries and turns clear you lay the tiles. After that it's good to roll something heavy over the tiles or use a rolling pin with all your weight on it. I use a block of wood and a mallet and just pound it all down.

I agree. If you don't let it dry, besides not adhering well, it will ooze between the cracks and get all over the top of the tiles and it makes a MESS. Been there, done that.

Just skin-off and replacing rotted framing. I really like the VCT and am going to go with that. I removed the old tile and am putting luan over the subfloor. I will feather all seams and nail holes. Thanks for all the feedback everyone on how to make it stick. I just got nervous after talking to somebody yesterday who I now think didn't know what he was talking about. I watched the redneck responder videos and mobiltecs' on installing, so I'm ready to tackle this!

You can't believe how many times one of my clients would email me and tell me they were nervous about doing something because of what someone else who doesn't even own a vintage trailer told them. Why do people listen to others who have no clue after asking advice from someone who has done it many times???

Don't believe everything people tell you in person either. Now I'm only talking about my own experiences for the most part when I share information. My experiences are an accumulation of knowledge that I learned from other people over the years and some of the experience I have in other skills like building construction and the like. And much of it is other peoples knowledge that I have improved on in one way or another. I only offer you what I know up to this point but between me, and the rest of the people on this board I'm pretty confident that you will find the answer that is right for you and your situation if you do your homework. It's all here.

Yep, I've definitely confirmed that the fellow who said the VCT would start failing in a couple of years and tried to steer me to sheet linoleum isn't as knowledgeable as he'd like me to believe. So now the fun begins! I'm going to cut them down to 9" with my table saw and do some kind of a cool pattern. I'll post pics when it's done. Thanks everyone!
