Was it domestic, or imported birch paneling? The higher quality for domestic (from Canada) paneling is worth the extra cost.
Likely the veneer is so thin that the glue is coming through, just my guess.

Unfortunately, the recent bendy panels I bought were Canadian, from Windsor Plywood. Lots of flaws.

Ugh I'm pretty sure they were imported from China because there was a stamp saying something along those lines on the back. I wonder if Houston Hardwoods will replace it, I'll call them today.

Toxoil, thank you! I really thought it was ash when I first saw it, but I couldn't convince anyone else of that! But then I figured in the big scheme of things, it didn't really matter because I can't find ash to replace it. The birch I stained does look really similar. I even sent this pic to a friend of mine who is a master woodworker who told me it was birch. I think everyone I showed it to just expected it to be birch. We have a 63 Airflyte Deluxe and it is all Ash. I had to replace several panels and I used Amber shellac too. It`s pretty close in color but not in grain. I`m happy with the match for now but may change the remaining panels out sometime down the road

Yeah I'm thinking it's ash in my Shasta. Hopefully by the time I replace most if the paneling the other pieces will blend in well enough.

I went to Houston Hardwoods yesterday and they are letting me exchange the panels of 1/8" birch that have green streaks for better ones. I sorted through a big pile until I found the most beautiful pieces. I'm excited to see how they turn out!

When we bought the panels to replace Tallulah Belle's interior, I had to paw through two pallets of panels to find ten panels that were acceptable, without knots, flaws or marks. The end result will be worth it, just do not get discouraged. BEFORE AFTER

Here's my first attempt at attaching veneer to my cabinets. It was actually really easy. I'm hoping it will be just as easy with all the other pieces I'm planning to veneer. Where?

Sorry mobiltec, you were too fast! I realized I couldn't attach the pictures because I had used the quick reply, so I had to update my comment after with the pics.

So you are using contact cement. That's what I would use too but I would use spray contact cement because it is no where near as lumpy. This is really neat and I hope you continue to show us what you are doing here with the veneer because I am thinking about using that stuff on some things my self. Again you might want to try spray contact cement applied to both surfaces.
Could you show a sequence of what you are doing using photos?

Sure, I'm actually going to apply veneer to the closet door today. It will be a bigger job than the cabinet door, so I will take more photos and post them here for your viewing pleasure. So far, the contact cement went on really smoothly using a paint brush and didn't leave any lumps. I got creative and used that light switch plate you see in the picture above to apply equal pressure across the veneer after applying it because I couldn't find my plastic scraper. haha Stay tuned for an update on the door later today...
